An Escort Interpreting Report On“Changhong·Sino-Russia Youth Cultural Exchange Activity”

Under the backdrop of economic globalization, political, economical and in-depth development of frequent international trade and business contacts, the exchange activities among countries are not only limited in conference rooms or press conferences but also carried out by many ways, such as field trips, sightseeing and live experience.As a result, the demand for escort interpreting is also one the rise.This is a practice report of escort interpreting, which summarized a cultural exchange on “Changhong·China-Russia Youth Cultural Exchange Activity”, lasted for seven days, from October 13 th, 2014 to October 19 th. Based on the author’s personal experience, the report particularly discussed the problems occurred in the practical interpreting process and the author put forward relevant solutions to those problems.The report was divided into four parts. Chapter one, the author introduced the task and requirements of the escort interpreting job. Chapter two, the author described the preparation before escort interpreting and the whole process of the interpreting, laying special emphasis on the importance of good preparation. Chapter three is about case analysis. According to the problems occurred in the escort interpreting process, such as weak short-term memory and poor numbers interpretation, lacking of quick response,neglecting consciousness of cross-cultural communication and so on. At the same time,the author brought up some technical skills for escort interpreting, such as reorganizing Chinese sentences’ structures, omitting redundant words, properly adopting annotation and transliteration and so on. In chapter four, the author summarized the whole report and reemphasized the significance of good preparation before the job. Moreover, the author also summed up the problems may be occurred in escort interpreting and delivered inspirations and expectations for future escort interpreting.In light of the practical experience, the author summarized some problems in escort interpreting and offered relevant solutions, wishing to provide some suggestions for other escort interpreters. Meanwhile, the author also hopes to make due contributions to spreading traditional Chinese culture around the world.
