A Project Report On The Interpreting For The Business Development Of A French Wine Group

From September 8 to 10 in 2020,the reporter was assigned to Badet Clément,a French Wine Group,serving as an interpreter for Olivier,regional president of Badet Clément in Asia.The reporter was responsible for a series of interpreting services,including consecutive interpreting of lectures given by organizers,business interpreting in the meetings between importers and exporters.During the process of interpreting,the reporter encountered two major issues: linguistic obstacles and non-linguistic ones.As for the linguistic obstacles,the reporter mainly faced input difficulties due to the lack of wine knowledge and output difficulties caused by culture-loaded words;as for the latter one,the reporter was confronted with difficulties in cross-cultural communication and in exerting the subjectivity consciousness of the interpreter.To solve these issues above,the reporter conducted a profound reflection by studying relevant books and theories and thus offered the following solutions: firstly,be well-prepared by learning more knowledge in the field of wine;secondly,adopt flexible interpreting strategies during the process of interpreting;thirdly,cultivate awareness of cross-cultural communication;and lastly,be aware of the interpreter’s subjectivity and make use of it in practice.Based on real practical experiences and through specific case studies,this report explores the difficulties encountered by the reporter and the ways to address them so as to improve the efficiency of information transmission.The corpus and its analysis are of reference value to interpreters,especially those in the wine marketing field.
