A Practice Report On Simulated Interpretation Of 2015 Shenzhen Municipal Government Work Report

Mayor Xu Qin presented Shenzhen Municipal government work report on the first session of the 6th Municipal People’s Congress on May 30 th, 2015. The 2015 Shenzhen Municipal government work report includes three fields as work review of the past five years, goals and primary tasks of the next five years and main work in2015 as well. Hereby, the 2015 Shenzhen Municipal government work report was chosen as the material to present the consecutive interpretation process from Chinese to English. The author attempts to analyze the consecutive interpretation process according to Daniel Gile’s Effort Model, by probing into four main efforts, namely the listening and analysis effort, the note-taking effort, the memory effort and the production effort. Potential problems and corresponding solving tactics are pointed out when discussing each effort.This practice report involves five chapters. Chapter one introduces briefly the whole interpreting project. Chapter two presents the process of the simulated interpretation including the preparation before interpretation, the process of interpretation and works after interpretation. Chapter three mainly introduces the theoretical basis named Daniel Gile’s Effort Model. In chapter four of case analysis,the author elaborates the analysis of the consecutive interpretation process in accordance with Effort Model. Chapter five gives a conclusion of the whole task and inspiration for further study.The practice report is designed to analysis four major different efforts with Daniel Gile’s Effort Model. And the author attempts to present difficulties in each effort and provide feasible coping tactics as well. Meanwhile, with the analysis of this simulated consecutive interpretation process, the author endeavors to improve the interpreting capability and offer suggestive reference to interpreters and referential material for consecutive interpreting studies as well.
