With the deepening of the reform and opening up and socialist modernization construction,China's comprehensive national strength and international status have been greatly improved.China is increasingly becoming the focus of the international community and its development has attracted much attention.As an open media platform focusing on politics and thought,The Paper,or Pengpai in Chinese,mainly covers domestic news;now,The Paper has more than 40 columns including Zhongnanhai,Letters from Hong Kong and Taiwan,Real Estate,Artistic Views,Cyclopedia for military,and New World Order column as well as it covers China‘s politics,economy,culture,military,diplomacy,etc.The Paper keeps a sharp but humorous writing style.It‘s faithful to the reality by using accurate description and plain narrative.With unique perspective,distinctive standpoints and in-depth analysis,The Paper has been an important media for foreign countries to know China;thus,its translation quality directly affects China's economic and social development as well as China‘s international status,etc.This translation practice aims to improve translation ability.The translator selects articles of Zhongnanhai column of The Paper in 2014 and 2015 as the source texts of the translation project.In this translation,the translator finds that the selected political news contains many four-character phrases,which have distinctive features but are difficult to translate.Under the guidance of Nida‘s Functional Equivalence Theory,the translator aims to make an in-depth analysis oftypical four-character phrases of the translation project from the perspectives of informative function and expressive function,and put forward translation strategies so as to achieve functional equivalence.This translation report consists of five chapters:Chapter One is the introduction of this report,and mainly introduces the topic,the main idea,the writing motivation as well as the source and the significance of the translation project;Chapter Two is the description of the translation task,including the brief introductions and features of political news,The Paper and four-character phrases as well as the translation theories adopted in this translation practice;Chapter Three is the description of the translation process,including preparation before translation,translation process and proofreading after translation;Chapter Four is the analysis of the translation cases,including the detailed analysis of typical four-character phrases from the translation project,and the translation strategies used in this Chinese-English translation of these phrases;Chapter Five is the conclusion of the translation report,including the experience and limitations of this translation practice,and the translator hopes that this translation report can provide useful references for the translation practices of the similar kind.
