Globally speaking, all the countries have attached great importance to education in the process of development. High quality classroom teaching and effective teachers have close relation with the quality of education. The source text is selected from the first and sixth chapter of the monograph Those Who Can, Teach written by Kevin Ryan, James M Cooper and Cheryl Mason Bolick, published in 2014 by Cengage Learning on the 14th edition. The monograph is about the researches and analysis on American teachers. The first chapter is to analyze the reasons why teachers choose the career from the objective and rational point of view, which paves the way and makes the fundamental effect on subsequent chapters. The sixth chapter is the crux of the book, summarizing the factors influencing the classroom teaching and analyzing how to eventually become an effective teacher by case analyses and surveys.With the application of functional equivalence, and integration of the context and translation examples, the translator analyzes the translation methods and makes certain exploration of the linguistic features of this literary form and completes the translation report. This thesis mainly consists of two parts. The first part is the translation practice of chapter one and chapter six. The second part is translation report which is divided into four chapters. The first section makes a brief introduction about the content of the translation, including translation background, translation theory evidences, translation target and translation significance. The second part introduces source text including the content, linguistic characteristics, and structure features. The third part illustrates the difficulties and techniques in the process of translation. The translator applies Eugene Nida’s theory of functional equivalence to explain the free translation of the source text and stresses the informative function of the target text. The translator adopts such methods as amplification, omission, conversion, combination and division to translate the source text. The fourth part concludes the lessons and experience during the translation, raising some unsolved problems and related consideration.The translator makes a further understanding on educational knowledge and this sort of text after the translation practice and accumulates related experience. The translation text of Those Who Can, Teach provides better reference for graduates of normal education and in-service teachers on classroom management, interaction between students and teachers and self-improvement of teachers.
