| With the deepening of reform and opening up, China’s international status in the economy, politics and culture has been greatly improved, and China’s urban development attracts the concern of the people worldwide. Ya’an, an important part of Sichuan, has drawn attention of the country, and even the whole world for the earthquake in 2013. Its future planning, especially in post-earthquake reconstruction, may serve as an example and references for the development for other quake-hit areas at home. Through translating the government work report, it is hoped that development achievements in recent years made by Ya’an could be displayed before the whole world so as to exhaust all possible support from all aspects for its better future. Furthermore, the translator plans to explore and research linguistic and structure features of political articles through this translation project, and summarize difficulties and solutions in the process of translation so that the translated text could be available for readers of target language and as a reference for the translation of other similar political documents at home. The original text is a government work report of Ya’an delivered at 2015. It describes the great achievements of Ya’an made in all aspects in 2014 and deploys the major tasks and working arrangements for 2015.This translation report is divided into four chapters:the first chapter introduces the background information of the translation project, theoretical guidance and target, at last, it explains the significance of the translation project. The second chapter describes the introduction of the source contents and linguistic characteristics. The third chapter contains four parts:the first part illustrates the translation of words with Chinese characteristics, which is composed of words with accepted translation and words with Ya’an features; the second part analyzes the translation of repetitive words, and there are three methods, namely replacing with pronouns, shortening modifiers and transforming words, could be used to solve the monotonousness and repetition of words in the translation process; the third part states the translation of coordinative words; the last part explains the translation of long sentences, under the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence theory, various translation methods, like literal translation and free translation, addition and omission as well as method of annotation, are illustrated in detail in the translation process. In the fourth chapter, the translator tells the thoughts on the translation project, expresses problems which the translator is unable to solve at present, and the striving direction the translator will towards for.Through the study on the translation project, it has been found:as for the political documents like the government work report, the Functional Equivalence theory by Nida has an instructive significance to dissect its inner connections and figure out its translation methods, therefore, it could be more appropriate to translate this kind of texts in this forms of literature. |
