With globalization of mass media, TV simultaneous interpreting is playing a more important role in TV programs. However, the study of TV simultaneous interpreting in China still has many problems to be solved. In this paper, the author regards TV simultaneous interpreting as an intermediary of mass communication. Based on the Uses and Gratification Theory, this paper observes the expectations and satisfaction of TV audience to explore problems in Chinese TV simultaneous interpreting and to find solutions to its future development.The paper first introduces the definition, features and difficulties in TV simultaneous interpreting, followed by the introduction of the audience-based Uses and Gratification Theory. The author holds that knowing audiences' demands and getting their feedbacks help improve quality of TV programs. The author believes, for better communicative effect, TV interpreters need to be both a broadcaster and an interpreter. Besides message accuracy, fluency and coherence are the most essential factors that affect the quality of TV simultaneous interpreting.To prove the hypothesis, the author conducted a simulated experiment and a survey. Based on the experimental result and feedbacks from the audiences, the paper gives suggestions to the development of TV simultaneous interpreting. TV interpreters are suggested not only to have abundant knowledge and interpreting skills as conference interpreters do, but also a clear voice and the ability to express fluently and coherently, as broadcasters do.
