As the main part of the Chinese Characters, pictophonetic characters play a very important role in Chinese characters'learning and the compilation of Teaching materials.Using the characteristics of pictophmetic characters to teach Chinese characters and prepare the teaching materials can help learners master the methods of learning characters effectively.Since the 90's of last century,scholars began to pay attention to Chinese characters teaching. Then a large number of Chinese characters teaching materials have been published.Teaching material plays an important role in teaching process. It can give teaching instructions, and improve teaching quality. At the present time, while many Chinese characters teaching materials appeared, there is no one widely accepted by the teachers and learners.And in the study of preparation of teaching materials, pictophonetic characters have been rarely conducted.In those teaching materials,we can see that the writers take the pictophonetic characters as one of the most important part. Different materials have different ways to design the part of pictophonetic characters. So we select two Chinese Character materials, "Experiencing Chinese Characters" and "Chinese Characters Easy to Learn".The major work is described as follows:The first part is the introduction, explained the aim and meaning of the study,the theoretical foundation and related research,research content and research methods.The second part is the brief introduction of the situation about the Independent Chinese Character teaching material published in recent years. Then this part explained the reason why we selected those two sets of materials.The third and fourth parts are the main parts. These parts checked and analyzed the design of pictophonetic characters in that two sets of teaching materials. We focus on three aspects, including the selecting of pictophonetic characters, the designing of the exercises about pictophonetic characters, and the knowledge points about pictophonetic characters. We analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of various materials in the aspect of pictophonetic characters.In the fifth part, on the basis of the above study, we analyzed the characteristic of this two teaching materials, and select some advantages as the guiding in the process of writing pictophonetic characters in the materials. At the same time, according to this study and the experience of teaching Chinese Characters, we try the best to give some advice for the Chinese Character materials compilation in the future.The last part is the conclusion part. We summarized the whole thesis and pointed out the shortages.
