With the rapid development of China’s economy and the rise of the overall national strength, the world has paid high attention to its domestic circumstance and newly implemented policies. As an effective means for international intercourse, news can not only be a useful tool to exchange information, but an indispensible way to get the perspectives of foreign media on China’s policies, among which news mainly focused on current policies palys a key role in international communication.Unlike practical texts, news is packaged information about current events, characterized by timeliness, authenticility, delivering the needy information to readers with concise and vivid expression. Political news mainly focuses on one country’s politcal circumstance and its newly implemented policies and the wording in this range of news is always tactful, so translator can not discern the real intention without a sharp eye. News reports are the mouthpeice of a country, reflecting the dominant ideology of the society. The usage of characteristic vocabularies and polysemy hiding behide some mild and roundabout meaning are common and implies a certain degree of political orientation. Political news translators should be sensitive to those words, trace the original meaning to discern the emotional coloring behide them and rewrite the misused wording. Different languages and way of thinking will no doubt evolve different poetics, which requires translators to seek common ground while reserving differences, including the rewrite of different sentence structures and figures of speech. Based on the different national stance, ideology and audience groups, the contents and perspectives chosen by two mass media will clash with each other. Therefore, news translators shall rewrite original texts to reproduce anthentic and effective information to target audience according to the ideology of the target language and the aesthentic experience of the target readers.Through the translation practice on political news in China column of The Economist, the author mainly discusses the specific procudure on political news translation. Political news translation isn’t the equivalent transition between two languages, but under manipulation of two different ideologies, poetics and sponsors, and the influence of fundamental realities of the country and cultural differences. With the guidance of manipulation theory, the author emphasises on the rewriting of language levels from characterized vacabularies, sentences, figures of speech and discourses. In this paper, the author adopts four translation methods, which are rewriting, deletion, adjustment and reconstruction and three translation techniques, which are sequencing, inversion and division. Besides, to achieve a more thorough understanding of news translation, this paper discusses other factors, different fudamental realities of the country, ideology and cultural differences from macroscopic view.
