On The Rewriting Strategies Of E-to-C Translation Of English Political News From The Perspective Of Manipulation Theory

With the increasing frequency of information exchange among countries,more and more English news is translated into Chinese and enter the Chinese people’s life.Among them,the political news is closely related with people’s lives,which occupies an important position in the information exchange.The reports of political news can make people know the recent or ongoing political dynamics among countries and international communities.Because of its own “political nature”,political news will be affected by many factors in the process of E-to-C translation of English political news,so the translator needs to properly rewrite the source text.Lefevere’s Manipulation Theory argues that translation is a rewriting of the original text,and rewriting will be inevitably influenced by three factors,namely ideology,poetics and patron.Among them,the ideology,in addition to the political sense of the ideology,also contains the constraints of our behavior norms,standards and beliefs as well as the concept of public acceptance and attitude.Poetics belongs to the category of literary system.Once the poetics is formed,it will become a common poetic norm of a particular language group.Patron belongs to the external factor of the literary system.In addition to ideological factors,the patron also includes economic factors and social status factors.Because of its own political nature,the creation of political news text is inevitably influenced by ideology and patron.At the same time,as a kind of text genre,the creation of political news text must conform to the current national and social poetic norms.In view of this,guided by the Manipulation Theory,the thesis takes the original English news published by the Europe and the United States mainstream media from October 2015 to August 2016 and the corresponding target text issued by Cankaoxiaoxi at the same time as the study materials,and it undertakes the specific study of the rewriting strategies of the E-to-C translation of English political news from the perspective of Manipulation Theory three elements,namely,ideology,poetics and patron.The thesis includes five parts.Chapter one is the introduction,which mainly introduces the research background,the purpose and the significance of the research,the research method,the source of the corpus and the thesis structure.Chapter two is the literature review,which summarizes the research achievements of domestic news translation and the research results of political news translation.Chapter three is the theoretical framework,which mainly introduces the Manipulation Theory and clarifies the meaning of the Manipulation Theory,themain factors that influence the translation and the feasibility of studying the political news translation under the guidance of the Manipulation Theory.Chapter four is the rewriting strategy of E-to-C translation of English political news,which mainly proposes the corresponding rewriting strategies from the three aspects of ideology,poetics and patron.Chapter five is the conclusion,which summarizes the research results and shortcomings of this thesis.This thesis takes the Manipulation Theory as the theoretical guidance and puts forward the corresponding rewriting strategies from the three major influencing factors of ideology,poetics and patron,hoping to have guiding significance for the E-to-C translation of English political news in both theory and practice.
