A Report On The Translation Of Legal Literacy (Chapter 8)

This report is on the translation of Chapter 8 in the book Legal Literacy, which is edited by Archie Zariski. Legal Literacy provides a systematic understanding of key concepts such as legal structure, law system and legal language, which is used for the learning of law students and can also help non-law majored students know about legal structure and help them to strengthen their law consciousness. During the translation of Chapter 8 in Legal Literacy, the author made analysis and study on the translation methods and skills and summarized the translation practice.This translation report is divided into five chapters. Chapter One is the description of the translation project, including the background and significance of this translation project. Chapter Two is the analysis of source text, including the introduction about the author, the content and the linguistic features of ST. Chapter Three is description of translation process, including the selection of translation tools, Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory used for directing translation practice preparation and quality control methods. Chapter Four is about translation difficulties and solutions. The difficulties lie in the translation of terminology, long sentences, reproduction of ST linguistic style. The translator adopted Nida's functional equivalence theory as the theoretical guide, ensuring the readability and coherence of the target text. Chapter Five concludes with a retrospection of the translation process.
