Spartan Tragedy, the third chapter of Building a Better Teacher by Elizabeth Green is chosen as the original text of the translation project. The chosen part is focused on the disadvantages of America education in the early 20 th century by demonstrating typical examples and the literary style of the original text is mainly narrative. Although its wording is plain and simple, there are difficulties in the translation of names of certain people and places, as well as some unique expressions used by the author and it also contains many complicated sentences and parenthesis that conducted by dash. Besides this, efforts are supposed to be devoted in translating and compiling of dialogues and descriptions of roles’ mental activities.The translation project is aimed at analyzing the original text and solving the problems encountered during the translation under the guidance of three rules of skopos theory, namely: skopos, coherence and fidelity. By having thorough awareness of the style and wording of the original text, the difficulties will be figured out and classified firstly. Then translation skills like domestication, reconstruction etc, will be applied in solving the above difficulties. Finally, the conclusion, enlightenment, achievement and problems to be solved would be presented and discussed.
