This is a translation project report on translating Education for Life and Work: Developing Transferable Knowledge and Skills in the 21 st Century(Chapter 4), published by the National Research Council(NRC) in 2012. This book reevaluates the purpose and prospect of education from the perspective of future life and work, advocating that what our society now really needs is those who have their own core value, solid cognitive structure and higher-order thinkingability, who can solve new problems with existing knowledge, and who are good at reflective thinking. This whole translation report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter starts with the general introduction to the project, including the background, targets, significance and structure of the report. Chapter two is about the source text of the project, containing a brief introduction to the author, as well as the content, text type and linguistic features of the ST. Chapter three gives the relationship between search engines and translation and their assistance of them in translation. Chapter four is the highlight of this whole project, providing the two searching methods of word translation and the benefit of related background information, with typical examples from the text. And the last chapter is a general conclusion, in which the author will share some lessons learnt from the translation process and lay out some remaining problems for future discussion.
