Report On VCE Chinese Exam In Victoria, Australia

Chinese economic achievements draw attention of the world and the "Chinese fever" is like a hurricane swept through countries around the world. In order to encourage students and members of the community to learn Chinese, many countries have established their Chinese language proficiency assessment system. Australia has a long history of teaching Chinese, but the history to establish a formal examination system is no more than 20 year. During the last 20 years, Australia Government has implemented relevant policies on Chinese language learning, as well as providing financial support. As a result, Chinese becomes one of Australia foreign language examination subjects in VCE exams. Chinese teaching in Victoria is fastest growing and now it's one of the most mature areas in Australia. Its Chinese test system provides demonstrations and reference for the world.From the introduction of Australia Victorian VCE English exam assessment system, the author analyzed 2014 VCE Chinese exams in Victoria. In respect of VCE Chinese test involves four fundamentals in listening, speaking, reading and writing, the author analyzed student's achievements and shortcomings in the VCE Chinese examinations, and made suggestions on Chinese language learning.The paper has four parts. The first part describes the origins and methods of research. Part two gives a brief introduction of VCE examinations in Chinese, including the targets of VCE exam, test subjects, and VCE exam system. Part three analyzed 2014 VCE Chinese exam in terms of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of three schools. Through interview and questionnaire survey method, combined with students' examination performance, the author analyzed obstacles and puzzles the students faced in Chinese language tests and provided teaching suggestions for improving the VCE exam in Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
