Translation Aesthetics is a theory combining translatology and aesthetics from China and the west. Over several centuries' development, translation aesthetics has almost developed into a complete theory system. Systematic writings on translation aesthetics do not appear until the end of 20 th century, among them, Liu Miqing's Guidelines to Translation Aesthetics systematically concludes translation aesthetic idea from home and abroad, and constructs his own complete translation aesthetic theory. For the past a hundred years, translation aesthetics has been widely applied to literary works such as poetry, prose and novel; however, it rarely appears in drama research for that drama has double nature: it is both a work for reading and for performance.This thesis reviews the progression of translation aesthetics first, then introduces the theory concerning property and aesthetic components of aesthetic objects in Guidelines to Translation Aesthetics written by Liu Miqing. Combining theoretical achievements on drama translation research and probe on drama translation aesthetics since 20 th century, with method of analysis and synthesis, this thesis concludes the universal translation aesthetic elements of drama: poetic goodness, performing goodness and cultural foreign goodness. And it analyzes the aesthetic information of Othello written by Shakespeare from the above three perspectives.According to drama translation aesthetic elements, under the direction of aesthetic information in Othello's source text, this thesis does research on Shakespeare's Othello and analyzes how Zhu Shenghao transfers the translation aesthetic elements from source text of Othello to his target text. Shakespeare's dramatic work is selected because it has the widest recognition and maximal research in China; Zhu Shenghao's translation is selected for the wide affirmation among translators and common people. On poetic goodness, this thesis analyzes aesthetic information in pronunciation, wording, sentence and paragraphs, choosing dialogues between the duke and Brabantio and ragged verses composed by Iago as research objects; on performing goodness, this thesis studies conversation among Iago, Roderigo and Brabantio and lines of Othello and Desdemona through drama language's performing property; on cultural foreign goodness, this thesis chooses cultural symbol as entry point, analyzing religious terms, historical figures and story of handkerchief made by wizard. This thesis is a specific exploration on the integration of drama and translation aesthetics. It applies abstract thought to blend drama's double nature in translation aesthetics. Meanwhile it tries expanding translation aesthetics' appliance on drama, in an attempt to make some contributions to the appliance of translation aesthetics in drama translation study.
