As early as the Warring States period, Zhuangzi applied the literary form of "fable" to narrate thought-provoking principles. Chinese modern fables have constantly developed and some scholars have started to study fables from the 1920s. However, the fact that Chinese fables have only been translated by a few translators compares distinctly with the fact that foreign fables such as Aesop's Fables have been translated for many times. If Chinese culture wants to go out, the translation of fables can't be ignored.Based on the translation practice of Chinese fables, this report mainly introduces and summarizes the process and fulfillment of the translation. Under the guidance of Susan Bassnett's cultural translation theory, the difficulties during the process of translation and related strategies are analyzed. The report is composed of five chapters. Chapter one introduces the background of the translation practice, as well as the general structure and significance of this report. Chapter two describes the translation practice from two aspects:the specific requirements of the translation and the features of source language text. Chapter three presents the whole translation process, including the pre-translation preparation, theoretical basis, translation plan, and post-translation matters, and the theoretical basis is Susan Bassnett's cultural translation theory. Case study forms chapter four, which analyzes Chinese fables translation from three aspects, namely, culture-loaded words, colloquialism and rhetorical devices. Under the guidance of cultural translation theory, some strategies such as literal translation, literal translation plus annotation, free translation are used to come up with appropriate translation. Chapter five sums up the experiences and limitations of the translation practice.
