Chapter oneObject To characterize the occurrence of colorectal carcinoma?CRC?patients among community residents in Qidong,Jiangsu province of China,from 1993 to 2012.To analyze mortality of colorectal cancer in Qidong City,Jiangsu from 1993 to 2011,and compare with mortality of colorectal cancer in Yangpu district,Shanghai;Hence providing flues of strategy on preventive and control of colorectal cancer.Method Data of CRC patients were obtained from cancer registry center of Qidong.The incidence was standardized on age composition of standard population from 2000nationwide census.Annual percent change?APC?model was performed to analyze the temporal trend in the incidence of colorectal carcinoma.Data were analyzed with SAS 9.4.Jointpoint regression program 4.3.1.0 was used to build APC models.Death data from Qidong Cancer Registry and Shanghai Cancer Registry were accessed,and records related to colorectal cancer death of registered population of Qidong and Yangpu from 1993-2011were extracted and cleaned.Mortality rates were standardized with composition of population by age of standard population of fifth national census in 2000.Result A total of 4648 CRC cases were diagnosed from 1993 to 2012 with crude incidence as 23.00/10⁵ and standardized one as 14.13/10⁵.Among all CRC patients,2328were male and 2320 were female.The incidence of colorectal carcinoma in males was significantly higher than that in females^P<0.001.The incidence of CRC significantly increased in the age group older than 50 years.From 1993 to 2012,the average annual crude incidence and standardized incidence of CRC increased 5.2%and 5.0%,respectively.Total number of colorectal cancer death was 2985 in Qidong City from 1993-2011.Crude mortality rate of colorectal cancer showed upward trend during nineteen years.After standardization,total age-adjusted mortality rate and age-adjusted mortality rate in male population also showed upward trend,while age-adjusted mortality rate in female population kept stable.Total number of colorectal cancer death was 4310 in Yangpu district from 1993-2011.Crude mortality rate of colorectal cancer showed upward trend during nineteen years.After standardization,age-adjusted mortality rate kept stable,totally.Crude mortality rate of colorectal cancer in Qidong from 1993-2011 was 13.77/10⁵,and age-adjusted mortality rate of colorectal cancer was 4.28/10⁵ in Qidong from 1993-2011.Crude mortality rate of colorectal cancer in Yangpu from 1993-2011 was 21.05/10⁵,and age-adjusted mortality rate of colorectal cancer was 10.8/10⁵ in Qidong from 1993-2011.Death number,crude mortality rate and age-adjusted mortality in Qidong City from1993-2011 were statistical significantly lower than those in Yangpu District.Death number of male colorectal cancer was 1517 in Qidong City,which generated crude mortality rate of14.17/10⁵ and age-adjusted mortality rate of 4.72/10⁵.Death number of male colorectal cancer was 2308 in Yangpu District,which generated crude mortality rate of 21.90/10⁵ and age-adjusted mortality rate of 11.53/10⁵.The former three parameters in Qidong City were statistical significantly lower than those in Yangpu District.Death number of female colorectal cancer was 1468 in Qidong City,which generated crude mortality rate of13.38/10⁵ and age-adjusted mortality rate of 3.88/10⁵.Death number of male colorectal cancer was 2002 in Yangpu District,which generated crude mortality rate of 21.17/10⁵ and age-adjusted mortality rate of 10.06/10⁵.The former three parameters in Qidong City were also statistical significantly lower than those in Yangpu District.Conclusion The incidence of CRC keeps increasing in Qidong,Jiangsu Province of China.The incidence is significantly higher in males than in females.Mortality rates of colorectal cancer in Qidong City from 1993-2011 were lower than Yangpu District.The reason behind relative higher mortality rate in Yangpu was aging of population,whereas another explanation was industrious exposure.
