ObjectiveTo explore the value of 3.0T multiple high resolution MRI sequences in diseases(Moyamoya Disease and Intracranial Atherosclerosis Disease related Moyamoya Syndrome)which were found that the formation of moyamoya-like collateral vessels at the base of the brain by digital subtract angiograph(DSA)or magnetic resonance angiography(MRA).Materials and methods1.Research materialsThe patients of this HR MRI research came from Qilu Hospital of Shandong University from September,2015 to August,2016;Finally,we collected 30 patients.2.Research methodsAll of these patients were scanned by multiple sequences on a 3.0T MRI,which consist of routine brain MR sequences(T1WI、T2WI、T2-FLAIR、DWI)、3D-TOF-MRA and high resolution MRI sequences; The patients were divided into two groups with respect to 2012 MMD standard of diagnosis and ICAD related standard: moyamoya disease(MMD)(n=17)and intracranial atherosclerotic disease-moyamoya syndrome(ICAD-MMS)(n=13);Characteristics were compared between the two groups,Which included unilateral or bilateral proximal of middle cerebral arteries were stenosis or occlusion、the number of stenosis or occlusion vessels、the type of intracranial lesions(ischemia or hemorrhage)and stenosis or occlusion of distal of the internal carotid arteries.2.Statistical methodsAll statistical analyses were performed with SPSS17.0 software.Qualitative datas were expressed as counts and percentages, quantitative datas were summarized using mean±standard deviation, and the Fisher’s exact test or t test was used to compare the measures between the two groups(ICAD-MMS VS MMD).Statistical significance was defined as a P-value less than 0.05.Results1.Clinical data results: There are 17 patients in MMD group(6 males,11 females),mean age 30.9±14.4 years;and 13 patients with ICAD-MMS(9 males,4 females),mean age 44.6±3.9.The MMD patients was younger on average than the ICAD-MMS group, and this difference was statistically significant(P=0.001).There were no significant difference in sex between the two groups(P=0.139).2.14 MMD patients and 8 ICAD-MMS patients showed bilateral formation of moyamoya-like collateral vessels at the MCA areas, respectively. The two groups had no significance in unilateral or bilateral formation of moyamoya-like collateral vessels at the MCA areas(P=0.242).3.There were 6 patients of MMD group and 0 patient of ICAD-MMS group showed intracerebral hemorrhage. The incidence of intracerebral hemorrhage in the MMD group was higher than ICAD-MMS group, and this difference was statistically significant(P=0.024).4.The stenotic or occlusion of terminal of internal carotid arteries were 14 and 2 respectively found in MMD and ICAD-MMS group. This difference was statistically significant(P=0.007).Conclusions3.0T multi-sequence high resolution MRI play an important role in study arterial walls and in exploring the pathogenesis of moyamoya-like collateral vessels at the base of the brain, which were discovered in DSA or MRA,and it provided additional crucial images in the process of the diseases, and has made it possible to diagnose MMD and ICAD-MMS by a noninvasive method.
