Background:Meniscus repair technology was gradually recognized over the past decades among those who performed arthroscopic surgery.Early biomechanical studies have further defined the importance of the meniscus in normal knee joint function.Long-term follow-up studies showed that virtually all knees after meniscectomy would accelerate progression to osteoarthritis with time.Current techniques typically use an arthrosc-opic repair to preserve meniscus tissue. The repair techniques are generally noted as all-inside,inside-out and outside-in,with each technique having it own advantages and disadvantages. The new method is improved on basis of outside-in suture for meniscal repair. It aims to achieve a better clinical healing outcome by a reformative suture technique as well as operate easily and reduce operation time. This method needs only a lumbar puncture needle loaded with one suture to complete the arthroscopic repair for anterior horn of the meniscus.Additionally, the surgically treated patients with this technique for meniscal injuries were followed-up and evaluated. We recommend this technique to repair an overall vertical longitudinal anterior tear of the meniscus. Methods:A total of 42 patients with the anterior horn lesion of the meniscus were chosen for research between January 2014 and October 2016 in fourth affiliated hospital of Nanchang university. They underwent arthroscopic meniscal repair of the anterior horn tear with a spinal needle pulling a suture out by the same surgeon. All they were followed up for average(12±2.6)months.According to Barrett's standard, the clinical healing outcomes of meniscus suture was evaluated, and the patients were followed up with IKDC Subjective Knee Evaluation Form score and the Lvsholm score before and 12 months after surgery.Paired-t test was used to analyze the differences of the IKDC and Lysholm scores between preoperatively and postoperatively. Results:In accordance with Barrett's standard,39(92.86%)cases achieved clinical healingin 42 sutured meniscus. The Lysholm score clearly increased from(50.14±9.86)preoperatively to(84.07±9.79)postoperatively,the difference between preoperatively and preoperatively was statistically significant(P<0.05).The IKDC score obviously improved from(48.17±8.77)preoperatively to(83.55±12.15)postoperatively,the difference between preoperatively and preoperatively was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions:When treating meniscal anterior tears that have been deemed repairable, the improved outside-in suture technique had obviously good clinical outcomes.the suture technique pulling a suture out with a spinal needle is a simple and definitely effective method to repair the anterior horn tear of the meniscus.
