Maintaining oral health of patients with type 2 diabetes is a hot topic in recent years. The “Guideline for the Prevention and Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes in China(2013 Edition)” published in 2014 puts forward the content of “Diabetes and Oral Diseases” and points out that diabetes is closely related to oral health problems.Patients with diabetes are prone to suffering from oral health problems, and oral chronic inflammation can also have a negative impact on blood sugar control in diabetic patients. In 1997,Slade et al.proposed the concept of “oral health quality of life”,that is,the influence of oral health on quality of life.Studies abroad have found that there is a certain correlation between sleep quality and oral health quality of life.At present, the quality of sleep in patients with type 2 diabetes in China is poor, and the relationship with oral quality of life is not yet clear. Objective 1.To investigate the level of sleep quality and oral health-related quality of life in type 2 diabetics.2.To analyze the relationship between sleep quality and oral health-related quality of lifeMethods A cross-sectional design was used in the study. The instruments contains general information questionnaire,Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)and Oral Health Impact Profile(OHIP-14).From March 2017 to June 2017,123 type 2 diabetes inpatients were chosen from department of Endocrinology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. The Excel was applied for data entry.Discriptive analysis,t-test,Spearman correlation analysis,Hierarchical regression analysis were performed by SPSS 20.0.Results 1.The total score of PSQI was(7.72±3.42)and the occurrence rate of sleep disorder with type 2 diabetics was 46.3%.2.The total OHIP-14 score was(11.84±8.62),and the incidence of poor oral health-related quality of life accounted for 43.9%.Among them,"the occurrence of obvious pain" is the most frequent negative effect of type 2 diabetes patients,15.4% of patients "often" or "very often" this situation;the one that had the least impact on the individual was “when there was a time when there was a mistake,” accounting for 1.6%.3.The OHIP-14 score was(11.84±8.62).In the sleep disorder group, the total OHIP-14 score, functional limitation, pain and discomfort, disability, handicap were(13.93±8.94),(3.82±2.85),(4.68±2.54),(1.47±2.07),(3.95±3.68).The one with sleep disorder were higher in OHIP-14 score and factor scores except for Psychological disability than patients with good sleep quality(t=3.21,2.65,3.45,2.57,respectively;P<0.05).4.The results of Spearman correlation analysis showed that except for “psychological discomfort”,the scores of PSQI were positively correlated with the total score of OHIP-14 and scores of various factors in type 2 diabetic patients, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).5.Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that sleep quality was an important factor affecting the oral health of patients with type 2 diabetes, independently affecting 6.1% of the total variation in oral health of patients with type 2 diabetes. Conclusions 1.Patients with type 2 diabetes have a higher incidence of sleep disorders, accounting for 46.3%,higher than the general population.2.Oral health-related quality of life is generally poorer in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus,of which oral "excessive pain" has the greatest impact on patients with type 2 diabetes.3.Sleep quality was positively correlated with oral health-related quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes. The worse the quality of sleep, the worse the oral health-related quality of life.4.Sleep quality has an adverse effect on oral health related quality of life.Clinical workers should pay more attention to patients with type 2 diabetics, and take timely measures to improve the sleep quality,so as to promote the oral health of the patients.
