Professor Hong Minli’s Clinical Experience In The Treatment Of Post-infectious Cough

Objective:To better inherit the experience of professor Hong Minli in treating post-infectious cough(PIC),A standardized clinical information collection system was used to collect and organize the cases of PIC by professor Hong Minli treatment and excavate it.Her traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome differentiation thoughts and medication rules were explored and her academic experience was further summarized,which may promote the development and inheritance of TCM academic thought.Methods:Retrospective outpatient record and literature data of PIC were collected through learning with the teacher.Standardized PIC case database was established by telephone follow-up,data processing,inputting the data into EXCEL database and data auditing.Through data mining and frequency analysis,the data of PIC was screened to analyze the frequency,clinical prescriptions and drug usage rules of the tutor.Her clinical experience and thinking characteristics of TCM syndrome differentiation in the treatment of PIC were summarized systematically.Results:1.General data:PIC was more common in female and occurred in different ages.It was usually as sub acute onset and lasted for 3 to 8 weeks,which was likely to occur in spring.2.TCM syndrome characteristics:the chief manifestations in clinic were cough and expectoration.The common accompanied symptoms included throat itching,thirst and bitter ness,nasal congestion,runny nose,dry stool and chest tightness,etc.TCM syndrome of pathogenic factors accumulated in Shaoyang was the main TCM syndrome,followed by TCM syndrome of phlegm-heat accumulated in the lung,damp-heat accumulated in the lung,lung-qi deficiency accompanied by wind-cold staying the lung,wind-cold invading the lung and phlegm-damp obstructing the lung.3.The drug frequency distribution:the frequency of drugs use of more than 50%were Ban Xia(Rhizoma Pinellia).Zhi Gan Cao(Radix Glycyrrhizae Praeparatae),Huang Qin(Radix Scutellariae),Chai Hu(Radix Bupleuri),Da Zao(Fructus Ziziphi Jujubae),Tai zi shen(Radix Pseudostellariae),Sheng Jiang(Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens),Ji Geng(Radix Platycodi),Niu Pang Zi(Fructus Arctii).Among the category of drug property,the drugs of clearing heat and harmonizing Shaoyang were the most frequently used,followed by invigorating qi drugs,dispersing lung and stopping cough,clearing heat,resolving phlegm and detoxicating drUgs.4.The prescription distribution:the frequency of Xiao Chaihu Tang used was the highest,followed by Chaihu Guizhi Tang,Guizhi Tang,San Ren tang,Yu Ping Feng San,Er Chen Tang,Hua Guai San,Liu Jun Zi Tang,Sang Ju Yin,Gan Lu Xiao Du Dan,etc.Conclusion:1.Professor Hong Minli payed attention to the collection of four diagnosis information,emphasized TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment,and did not restrict one TCM syndrome and one description.She usually synthesized the factors such as the constitution of the patients,the solar terms of onset,the course of the disease,the age and the basic disease which may affect the disease nature and prognosis of PIC.2.Professor Hong often use the six-meridian TCM syndrome differentiation and the wei qi battalion blood TCM syndrome differentiation in treating PIC.3.Professor Hong regarded that TCM syndrome of pathogenic factors accumulated in Shaoyang was the main TCM syndrome.Hong’s treatment methods for PIC was mainly based on reconciliating Shaoyang.Eliminating pathogenic factors was used when exogenous pathogenic factors didn’t relieve.Strengthening healthy qi was the main method and get consideration to eliminating pathogenic factors when healthy qi have been hurt.The different therapy methods such as relieving sore throat,clearing heat and resolving phlegm,invigorating spleen and supplement qi,dispersing the lung to relieve cough,relieving superficial pathogenic factors,resolving dampness were flexible adopted.Professor Hong was good at using a pair of TCM for the treatment of PIC.4.Professor Hong emphasized that to nurse one’s health after illness was important.Patients were often asked to pay attention to diet and daily life and avoiding the cold and wind so as to prevent relapse.
