Objective:To investigate the epidemiologic features of sarcopenia and its related indexes in elderly population in Suzhou, explore the protection factors and risk factors of sarcopenia and provide the basis for prevention and treatment of sarcopenia. Methods:From September 2016 to April 2017,we selected qualified volunteers from Jinshi community,Chunhui nursing home and Yiyang elderly apartments and investigated their relative information with the method of cross-sectional survey.Body muscle mass was measured by using a bioelectrical impedance analyzer(BIA)with model DBA-210.Muscle strength was determined by JAMAR handgrip strength(HS)and physical function was evaluated by the subjects' 4-m gait speed(GS).The sarcopenia was comprehensive diagnosed by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia(AWGS)criteria. The relation between age, body mass index(BMI),the appendicular skeletal muscle mass index(ASMI),upper arm circumference, crus surrounds, muscle mass, handgrip strength and gait speed was measured by pearson corralation, and the correlation between sarcopenia and gender, age,BMI,upper arm circumference, crus surrounds, different frequency of diet and exercise was analyzed by Spearman correlation. In the end,we analysed indexes related with sarcopenia with logistic regression analysis and figured out risk factors and protective factors.Results:(1)Prevalence of sarcopenia was 28.8%.The prevalence rate was 30.4% for men and 27.9% for women, and there was no statistically significant differencebetween men and women.(2)Compared with normal group, sarcopenia group age was higher, however, the height, weight,BMI,upper arm circumference, crus surrounds and arm muscle mass, lower limb muscle mass, appendicular skeletal muscle(ASM)and ASMI,handgrip strength, gait speed were lower, the difference was statistically significant.(3)The elderly, whether men or women, their ASMI was positively correlated with BMI,upper arm circumference, crus surrounds and arm muscle mass, lower limb muscle mass, grip strength, gait speed.Gait speed and handgrip strength were negatively correlated with age.Upper arm circumference and arm muscle mass, crus surrounds and lower limb muscle mass, arm muscle mass and grip strength, lower limb muscle mass and gait speed had positive correlation.(4)Different frequency of intake of meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products led to different prevalence of sarcopenia.Among them, there was a lowest prevalence rate among the elderly with 4~7 days/week.The group “1~3 days/week” and the group“Never eat” had no statistical difference in the prevalence of sarcopenia.(5)There was a statistical difference in the prevalence of sarcopenia in different duration of aerobic exercise and resistance exercise each week, with p < 0.05.(6)According to the spearman correlation analysis of the sarcopenia and related factors, age was positively correlated with sarcopenia, while BMI,upper arm circumference, crus surrounds and sarcopenia were negatively correlated.Meat, fish, eggs, and dairy intake frequency were negatively correlated with sarcopenia.Aerobic exercise and resistance exercise time were negatively correlated with sarcopenia, all the correlations were statistically significant(p < 0.05).(7)Logistic regression analysis was performed on the correlative factors of sarcopenia, and the results showed that age was a risk factor for it,while higher BMI,dietary intake of meat, eggs and dairy products were protective factors. Conclusion:Aging is a risk factor of sarcopenia, however,BMI,meat, eggs and dairy are protection factors.
