ObjectiveTo investigate the multicultural nursing competence status quo of nurses from oncology department in a certain city;Increasing nurses'multicultural competence through multicultural nursing knowledge and skills training and providing targeted multicultural nursing care for patients so as to improve patients'satisfaction about nursing services.MethodFrom August to October in 2015,a total of 320 oncology nurses from three 3rd Grade Class A Hospitals in a city were picked up randomly by means of cluster sampling method and investigated their multicultural nursing competence by Nurse Cultural Competence Scale?NCCS?.Sixty-eight nurses met the requirements of research were chosen randomly from the 1st and 2nd tumor department of a 3rd Grade Class A Hospital and divided into intervention group?N=34?and control group?N=34?by the lottery method.From March to April in 2016,The nurses from the intervention group studied multicultural nursing knowledge and skills.The training lasted 7 weeks.At the end of the training,the nurse`s multicultural nursing competence was investigated by the NCCS so as to evaluate the training effect.From May to July in 2016,Eighty patients were matched in the disease and general data from the 1st and 2nd tumor department were divided into experiment group?n=40?and control group?n=40?randomly.Based on the conventional nursing care,nurses in the intervention group provided targeted multicultural nursing care for patients while nurses in the control group cared patients as conventional.Satisfaction about nursing services of patients'form control group and intervention group was investigated and compared by Hospitalized Patients'Nursing Service Satisfaction Survey?HPNSSS?when admitting and leaving hospital,so as to evaluate the effect of multicultural nursing knowledge and skills training synthetically.Data was collected and analyzed by using SPSS in version of20.0.Statistical methods included descriptive analysis,t test,F test,c2 test,P<0.05 means statistically significant.Results1 The status quo of multicultural nursing competence of nurses from oncol-ogy departmentThe score of every item in Nurse Cultural Competence Scale ranging from 1 to 5.The total mean score of multicultural nursing competence for300 oncology nurses in a certain city was?2.58±0.78?,which was at a lower middle level.Working seniorities can affect nurses'multicultural nursing competence.2 The effect of nurses'multicultural nursing knowledge and skills training?1?Training is conducive to improving nurses'multicultural nursing know-ledge and skillsTotal mean score of multicultural nursing knowledge and skills of nurses in intervention group before the training was?57.50±5.07?,the score of theoretical knowledge was?32.98±4.16?,and the score of skills was?24.53±3.30?.Total mean score of multicultural nursing knowledge and skills of nurses in intervention group after the training was?81.78±3.92?,the score of theoretical knowledge was?53.65±3.09?,and the score of skills was?28.15±2.15?,which were all higher than the score before the training,and the difference was statistically significant?P<0.05?.?2?Training is beneficial to improve nurses'multicultural care capabilityAfter the training,the score of multicultural nursing competence in the intervention group was?3.42±0.16?that of higher than that of pre-training with?2.39±0.51?,and was also higher than that of the control group which was?2.45±0.21?.The difference was statistically significant?P<0.05?.?3?Training is helpful in improving patients satisfaction about hospital nursing careWhen the intervention group discharged,the total mean score of patients satisfaction about hospital nursing care was?3.45±0.23?,higher than those patients when they admitted the hospitals?3.04±0.19?and was also higher than patients in the control group whose score was?3.02±0.21?,the difference was statistically significant?P<0.05?.Conclusion1 The multicultural nursing competence score of nurses from oncology department in a certain city stay at a low level.The nurses'professional title?working seniorities and multicultural nursing training experiences can affect nurses'multicultural nursing competence.2 Multicultural nursing knowledge and skills training can improve the nurses'multicultural nursing competence and patients'satisfaction abo-ut hospital nursing care.
