ObjectiveTo investigate the current status of new graduated nurses’ transition shock and career adaptability and its influencing factors and evaluate the relationship between them;and to evaluate the effects of career group guidance on the transition shock and career adaptability for new graduated nurses. It might provide the basic references for nursing managers to improve the training model of career adaptability among new nurses.Methods(1)In order to analyze the new graduated nurses’ current status of transition shock and career adaptability and their influencing factors,we asked 383 new graduated nurses to answer the following questionnaires: the self-made questionnaire, career adaptability inventory and new graduated nurses transition shock inventory.(2)Based on Savickas’ career adaptability theory, according to the random method, from April in 2016 to October in 2016,84 new graduated nurses were chosen as the research objectives.New nurses were evenly and randomly divided into the intervention group(n=42)and the control group(n=42).The demographic details, career adaptability and transition shock between the two groups were respectively compared.New graduated nurses in the intervention group were given 8 times group career guidance based on Savickas’ career adaptability theory besides normal training while the new nurses in the control group only receive normal training. Each group nurses’ scores of the transition shock inventory or career adaptability inventory were assessed after the intervention. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences(SPSS)18.0.We use the standard deviations means and percentages to analyze the statistical description and we use t-test,chi-square test, analysis of variance, multiple linear model and linear correlation to analyze the statistical inference.Results(1)The total mean score of transition shock of new graduated nurses was(3.41±0.47),the mean scores of its four dimensions were as following : physical condition(3.68±0.77),knowledge and skills(3.47±0.71),psychology condition(3.32±0.76),social culture and development(3.18±0.83).Sex,working time, department, system of employment under contract could explain 45.9% of the total variance.(2)The total mean score of the new graduated nurses’ career was(3.31±0.71).The mean scores of its four dimensions were as following: career confidence(3.54±0.82),career concern(3.29±0.76),career curiosity(3.24±0.89),career control(3.16±0.85).Sex,working time, system of employment under contract, department and whether receive career education in the school could explain 68.2% of the total variance.(3)The career adaptability was negatively correlated to the new graduated nurses’ transition shock.(r=﹣0.451,P<0.05)。(4)The differences on the demographic details, transition shock and career daptability between two groups were not significant before the intervention(P > 0.05).(5)After the intervention, except for career control, mean scores of the new graduated nurses’ career adaptability(3.83±0.30),career concern(3.91 ±0.31),career curiosity(3.88 ± 0.42)and career confidence(4.04±0.39)were higher than that before intervention.Except for career control, mean scores of the new graduated nurses’ career adaptability and other three dimensions were obviously higher in the intervention group than that in the control group[(3.44±0.43),(3.51±0.31),(3.48±0.40),(3.61±0.54)](P<0.05).(6)Except for physical condition(3.63±0.44),mean scores of the new graduated nurses’ transition shock(2.99±0.32),psychology condition(3.01±0.20),knowledge and skills(2.84±0.20),social culture and development(2.56±0.29)were more significantly reduced in the intervention group after the intervention than those before intervention[(3.44±0.33),(3.55±0.29),(3.18±0.35)](P<0.05).Compared with the control group(3.53±0.41),except for physical condition, mean scores of the new graduated nurses’ transition shock and its other three dimensions were more significantly reduced in the intervention group [(3.94±0.45),(3.52±0.37),(3.47±0.45),(3.24±0.28)](P<0.05).Conclusions(1)The score of career adaptability of new graduated nurses was at moderate level.Sex,working time, system of employment under contract, department and whether receiving career education in the college or university were the influencing factors for the new graduated nurses’ career adaptability.(2)The score of transition shock of new graduated nurses was at medium to upper level.Sex,system of employment under contract, department, working time were the influencing factors for the new graduated nurses’ transition shock.(3)Career group guidance based on Savickas’ theory could improve newgraduated nurses’ career adaptability and reduce their transition shock. |
