Objective: To explore the academic origin of warm disease’s principle,method,recipe and medicinal in Treatise on Febrile Diseases,analyze the warm disease theory in Treatise on Febrile Diseases and the relationship between later science of warm disease and the theory,confirm that the Treatise on Febrile Diseases is the chief source of warm disease theory,enlarge the application range of the classical prescriptions,lay a solid theoretical foundation for further improving clinical curative effect.Methods: Choosing the methods of philology research,excavating the warm disease theory original articles in Treatise on Febrile Diseases of the Zhao Kaimei Edition,inducing,summarizing and annotating the articles,and also contacting the Chinese medical classics,such as Nei Jing,Nan Jing,Shen Nong’s Herbal Classic and Tang Ye Principle,referencing the later acknowledgments of later medical experts and literature,studying the warm disease theory in Treatise on Febrile Diseases and the relationship between later science of warm disease and the theory deeply.Results: The warm disease theory was sprouted in pre-Qin and Han Dynasties,both principle,method,recipe and medicinal of warm disease was expounded in this period.Nei Jing had the preliminary understanding about warm disease’s principle and method,not only provided some warm disease names directly but also involved the aspects of etiology,pathogenesis,clinical manifestations,diagnosis,treatment and prognosis of outcome about warm disease.The six meridians syndrome differentiation system talked about in theory of heat was the prototype of Treatise on Febrile Diseases,which was inherited and innovated by Zhang Zhongjing.The expounding of five types febrile diseases in Nanjing provided the reference to classify the exogenous febrile diseases for Zhang Zhongjing.Shen Nong’s Herbal Classic and Tang Ye Principle provided prescriptions and herbs to treat warm diseases.The Treatise on Febrile Diseases talked about cold damage in a broad sense,and the six meridians syndrome differentiation system contained warm disease.The Treatise on Febrile Diseases discussed the etiology,pathogenesis and therapies,prescriptions and herbs in every level of warm disease occurrence and progress.Experts on warm disease inherited and developed the therapies about heat-clearing,purgative and nourishing yin and the prescriptions and herbs,formed the warm disease theory.Conclusion: The Treatise on Febrile Diseases has recognized the warm disease clearly,inherited and innovated the principle-method-recipe-medicinal in Nei Jing,Nan Jing,Shen Nong’s Herbal Classic and Tang Ye Principle of the period from pre-Qin to Han Dynasties.The six meridians diseases of Treatise on Febrile Diseases covered the overall pathological process of the body attacked by warm disease evil,from superficies to interior,from surface to depth,which had close relationship with warm disease.The later experts on warm disease regarded the Treatise on Febrile Diseases as a chief source,inherited and developed the theory of warm disease in this literature and formed the warm disease theory.
