Objective:By investigating the expression of PAK4 in ESCC and adjacent normal tissues,we analyzed the relationship between the expression level of PAK4 and clinicopathological features and prognosis of ESCC.Then,we can discuss the significance of PAK4 overexpression in ESCC.Methods:60 patients with ESCC who underwent surgical treatment were collected from 2009 to 2010 in Hunan Cancer Hospital.Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of PAK4 in 60 cases of ESCC tissues and adjacent normal tissues.We collect the patients' postoperative survival information by the telephone follow-up.SPSS22.0 software was used for data collection and statistical analysis.P <0.05 is considered to have statistically significance.Results: The 60 patients enrolled in this study,were mainly male patients,including 56 males(93.3%)and 4 females(6.7%).Among them,19 patients(31.7%)with age> 60 years old,41 patients(68.3%)with age ?60 years were mainly middle-aged patients.Pathological differentiation consisted of poorly differentiated 4 cases(6.7%),moderate-to-low differentiation in 6 cases(10%),moderate differentiation in 19 cases(31.6%),high-to-moderate differentiation in 28 cases(46.7%),well differentiated in 3 cases(5%),high-to-moderate differentiation and moderate differentiation is relatively more.There were 12cases(20%)in stage ?,17 cases(28.3%)in stage ?,31 cases(51.7%)in stage ? and no stage ? in stage ?.It is included 37 patients(61.7%)with lymph node metastasis,23 patients without lymph node metastasis(38.3%),and patients with lymph node metastasis account for the majority.The expression level of PAK4 in esophageal carcinoma tissues and adjacentnormal tissues was significantly different,and the expression level of PAK4 in esophageal carcinoma tissues was higher than that in adjacent normal tissues(P <0.01).There was no significant difference in PAK4 expression between male and female patients(P> 0.05).There was no significant difference in the expression of PAK4 between the age> 60 years old and the age ?60 years(P>0.05).There was no significant difference between the degree of differentiation and the expression of PAK4(P> 0.05).The PAK4 expression level of T1 and T2 was lower than that of T3(P <0.05).The PAK4 expression level of N0 was lower than that of N1,N2 and N3(P <0.05).The PAK4 expression levels of stage ? and ? were lower than those of stage ?(P<0.01).The expression level of PAK4,T stage,N stage and clinical stage were the risk factors of prognosis(P <0.05),but the age,sex and pathological differentiation were not correlated with prognosis(P> 0.05).Further analysis showed that the average survival time and median survival time of PAK4 overexpression group were shorter than the low expression group.The 5-year survival rate of PAK4 low expression group was significantly higher than that of PAK4 high expression group(P <0.01).Conclusions: The expression of PAK4 in ESCC was higher than that in adjacent normal tissue.The expression level of PAK4 was correlated with T stage,N stage and clinical stage in ESCC,which was not related to the age,sex and pathological differentiation.The high expression of PAK4 may suggest a poor prognosis in patients with ESCC.
