Uniport Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Lobectomy Is Feasible In The Treatment Of Elderly Patients With Peripheral Lung Cancer

Background: Uniport Video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy is the devepment and extension of Traditional Video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy.This study is to review the technology in the treatment of elderly patients with peripheral lung cancer.Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 52 elderly patients with peripheral lung cancer who underwent VATS lobectomy from January 2015 to December 2016 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University,22 of whom underwent Uniport Video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy(U-VATS group),30 of whom underwent single-utility port VATS lobectomy(VATS group).The clinical outcomes and postoperative complications were then compared between the two groups.Results: 52 cases of elderly patients with postoperative hospital successfully,caused no deaths.There was no statistical difference in intraoperative blood loss,the quantity of lymph node dissection or total postoperative drainage volume between the SP-VATS and VATS group groups.However,significant differences existed in the the length of the incision(4.00±0.87 cm vs 5.83±0.91cm),surgery duration(198.90±48.78 mins vs 165.20±29.56mins),chest drainage duration(5.59±2.95 days vs 8.23±4.34days),postoperative hospital stay(7.18 ± 2.78 days vs 9.57 ± 0.99days),degree of chest pain on first postoperative day(4.86±1.04 points vs 5.67±0.99points)and degree of chest pain in one month after surgery(1.68±0.72 points vs 2.13±0.77points)] between the SP-VATS and VATS groups(P < 0.05).Conclusion: Uniport Video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy is not only a safe and feasible but also a little trauma pain and quick recovery surgical procedure for selected elderly patients with peripheral lung cancer.
