A Comparison Of Transdermal Formulations Of Buprenorphine And Tramadol In The Treatment Of Geriatric Patients With Postherpetic Neuralgia

[Objective]To investigate the therapeutic effects and safety of buprenorphine transdermal patch and tramadol in the treatment of geriatric patients with postherpetic neuralgia.Discussed the clinical application of buprenorphine transdermal patch in treatment of PHN.[Methods]154 PHN patients were selected from Qilu Hospital of Shandong University between Jan 1st,2016 and Jan 1st,2017,randomly divided into buprenorphine group and tramadol group,with each group of 77 patients,respectively acceptted pregabalin combined with buprenorphine or tramadol treatment.Patients were assessed at baseline and followd for 28 days,recorded NRS score at each time point and the quality of life score(in brief pain scale BPI),observed adverse reactions such as nausea,vomiting,drowsiness and constipation.[Results](1)The NRS scores of both groups after treatment were significantly improved compared to those before treatment(p<0.05).There was no statistical difference in the improvement magnitude between 2 groups(p>0.05).(2)The BPI scores of both groups after treatment improved either,compared to those before treatment(p<0.05).There was no statistical difference in the improvement magnitude between 2 groups(p>0.05).(3)There was no statistical difference in the incidence of drowsiness and thirst between 2 groups(p>0.05).The incidence of nausea vomiting and constipation in buprenorphine group was lower than tramadol group(p<0.05).[Conclusion](1)In the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia,both of the buprenorphine and tramadol could efficiently alleviated pain and improved the quality of life.(2)The incidence of nausea vomiting and constipation of buprenorphine was lower than tramadol,and the other adverse reactions were similar.(3)Buprenorphine has a precise treatment and the mild side in the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia.
