Objective: Use surface electromyography to analysis of the characteristics of EMG signals in the unilateral stroke patients who take the 30-s repeated saliva swallowing test, and to investigate the difference of electromyographic signals between the two sides of the hyoid bone in patients with dysphagia after unilateral stroke.Provide the relevant experimental basis for the diagnosis of unilateral stroke dysphagia with surface electromyography. Methods: Fifteen patients with swallowing dysfunction after unilateral stroke were divided into the experimental group and fifteen patients with normal swallowing function after unilateral stroke were divided into the control group. We analyzed the similarities and differences about the surface EMG signal between the two groups by repeated saliva swallowing test. Results: By the 30-s repeated saliva swallowing test, there were no significant differences about the average waveform, peak value, and waveform area on the two sides of the hyoid muscle in patients of the control group(P>0.05).But the values of the above indicators on the normal side of the patients were obviously larger than those of the diseased side of them in the experimental group(P<0.05).At the same time, the values of the above indicators on the normal side of the experimental group were slightly larger than the according ones in the control group, without statistical significance(P > 0.05).However,those values of the diseased side in the experimental group were significantly lower than that of the control group(P<0.05).In the experimental group, the time of single swallowing wave was obviously longer than that of the control group(P < 0.05).Compared to the control group, the frequency of 30-s repeated swallowing decreased distinctly in the experimental group(P<0.05).Conclusion: The EMG signal on the hyoid muscle showed that there were significant differences on the two sides of patients in experimental group, but there were't in the control group. That will possibly provide us the positive clinical significance for the diagnosis of swallowing dysfunction after unilateral stroke withsurface electromyography.
