[Objective]:To investigate the effects of dutasteride, which was continuing medication for 8 weeks in conventional dose by oral,on the amount of bleeding during transurethral plasmakinetic prostatectomy.[Methods]:In this study,we collected 60 cases of transurethral resection of prostatectomy from April 2014 to January 2016 in Huai'an First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University and randomised them into Observation group(group A)and Control group(group B).Group A was not given any anti-androgen before surgery;and group B was given dutasteride(0.5 mg daily for 8 weeks)by oral before surgery.Blood samples were taken before and after transurethral plasmakinetic prostatectomy for serum chemistry evaluation. In particular we evaluated blood parameters associated with blood loss haemoglobin(Hb)and haematocrit(Ht).The resulting quantitative data was presented in the form of meanąstandard deviation(xąs).Then We used Shapiro-Wilk method to test normality and meanąstandard deviation to descriptively analyze the acquired variables.Independent t-test was conducted to analyse the difference if each groups is normally distribued and homogeneous. We thought that the difference between the two groups was statistically significant if P<0.05.[Results]:There was no statistically significant difference in Hb and HT in peripheral blood between two groups before surgery(P = 0.58,P = 0.60).However,after 48h of surgery, both Hb and HT in group B were higher than group A,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).In this study, there were 2 cases of decreased libido and 1 case of erectile dysfunction in group A,but all symptoms disappeared within 1 month after surgery. In the telephone follow-up,no ejaculation disorder, enlargement of the breast, and liver function injury were reported.[Conclusion]:The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of oral finasteride on bleeding during transurethral resection of the prostate in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia. And the results show that dutasteride was able to reduce operative and perioperative bleeding in patients that underwent transurethral plasmakinetic prostatectomy. Our findings are confirmed by Hb and Ht values reported before and after the transurethral plasmakinetic prostatectomy in the dutasteride-treated specimens. It is worthy of clinical popularization.Deficiently, the number of patients enrolled in this study is small and it needs to be confirmed by a larger sample size study.
