ObjectiveTo translate the Health Information Seeking Behavior(HISB)questionnaire into Chinese and evaluate its reliability and validity, and then to assess the health information seeking behavior of diabetic patients, and to know the current status of it.Through path analysis,to explore the mechanism and effect size of various factors impact on the HISB in patients with diabetes, provide a theoretical basis for future intervention studies and improve HISB and self management ability.MethodsMethods 1.After obtaining the authorization of the source table, according to the Brislin translation principle to translate, retranslate and cross-cultural adaptat the English version to Chinease version.2.The reliability of the test-retest reliability and Cronbach 'a coefficient were used to test its reliability.Content validity and construct validity were used to test its validity.3.We did a convenience sampling in Tianjin medical University Metabolic disease Hospital. We used questionnaires concerning health information seeking behavior, diabetes distress, health belief, and self-efficiency and illness perceptions.Statistical methods include rank sum test, correlation and regression, exploratory factor analysis and path analysis. Results 1.The introduction of Chinese HISB: After translating HISB into Chinese, the investigator amended it taking the cultural background in China into consideration. The Chinese version of HISB consist of 38 items, eight common factors were extracted, which explained 72.538% of variance of the total scale, and each item had high factor loading quantity(>0.4),each of item-level(I-CVI)was more than 0.80,scale-level CVI valued 0.92,significant correlations were shown in the scores of the HISB,which were observed between test and re-test(r=0.882),sufficient internal consistency(Cronbach's ?=0.866).2.The application of Chinese HISB: 230 questionnaires were distributed and 280 questionnaires screened in the study.Totally 280 patients including 58.3% of men and aging 19~87(54.7±11.6)years old.Education level is mainly concentrated in high school(34.8%)and junior high school(20%).The main source of health information for patients with diabetes in China is the channel of medical staff, and the main factors that hinder the patients' information acquisition are the cultural level.3.Effect of diabetes health information seeking behavior factors include diabetes distress, health beliefs,self-efficacy and illness perceptions, the diabetes distress is the most important negative impact factor and the path coefficient was-0.62,diabetes mellitus, health belief have indirect effect on information seeking behavior through the mediating variable of self-efficacy.Conclusions 1.The Chinese version of HISB has a high reliability and validity, which could be used as a tool for measuring health information seeking behavior in China. With concise and clear items, patients with diabetes can easily understand the consent of HISB.HISB was recommended as an assessment tool to evaluate the level of health infoemation seeking behavior and effective to provide a theoretical basis for promoting the level of health infoemation seeking behavior.2.The level of health information seeking behavior of diabetes patients in our country is in the middle level, the main source of information is medical staffs, and the main reason for hindering their access to health information is cultural level.3.Diabetes distress, health belief, illness perception and self-efficacy are the main factors affecting the health information seeking behavior of diabetic patients.Among them, the effect of diabetes mellitus was the most significant, and self-efficacy was the mediator variable of diabetes distress and health belief. Therefore,in clinical work, measures should be taken to reduce or ameliorate the negative psychological pain in patients with diabetes, improve the patients' self-efficacy,health beliefs and illness perceptions state to improve diabetes information seeking behavior.
