Background:The role of women in today's society is more and more important,so that women's health is attracting more and more attention.Menstrual cycle is a significant symbol of women's health, with menarche and menopause being of the most important events marking the beginning and the end of menstruation as well as women's fertility. They are so important that they have attracted the attention from many researchers. They detected what is risk factors affect the normal menstruation appearing or disappearing.Fetal period is a stage that the vital organs are coming into being and forming normal organic structure, even laying a basis of function.Whether there is a relationship between abnormal menstrual and prenatal famine exposure or not? There is no direct evidence in human beings that prenatal famine exposure affects menstrual appear or disappear in women.Chinese people suffered the Chinese Great famine during 1959-1961.Because of less food supply, all born in 1959.10.1-1961.9.30 suffer the Chinese Great Famine. Therefore we can do a survey of women who born in1959.10.1-1961.9.30 to detect whether those fetal exposed to famine have higher risk to suffer premature ovarian failure. Objective: This retrospective study based on REACTION in China during June 2011 to January 2012,then selecting participants from Fujian province or Shanghai province in20 groups of China of REACTION.A total of 2868 female participants aged 47 to 55 years were enrolled in the study.Design: Statistical comparisons were performed by means,one-way analysis of variance for continuous variables and simple chi-square tests for categorical variables.Logistic regression analyses to estimate the relative Risks for menopausal status, then adjusted for confounders. Results: It showed that the exposed group's average age of menarche was younger than those matched groups',but was not significantly different(p=0.286).The test of early menopause was just significant difference between the exposed group and the matched group 1962-1964 years(raw p=0.026;adjusted p=0.031;OR: 1.555,95% CI:1.042-2.322).The premature ovary failure(POF)prevalent just between the exposed group and the whole matched group(adjust p=0.028)was striking difference, which showed markedly high risk for prevalent POF(OR: 2.207,95% CI: 1.079-3.810).Variables about reproductive system function such as nulliparity, spontaneous abortion, weren't significant differences. Conclusion: The present study proposed that fetal exposure to famine had no obvious effect on puberty onset, but might have increased early menopause incidence,or even might have increased the risk of premature ovary failure(POF)occurrence.
