Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of the combination therapy with oral and topical mesalazine for patients with radiation proctitis.Methods:We select the patients with radiation proctitis,who received radiotherapy of pelvic cancer in the first hospital in of Shanxi Medical University between September2014 to January 2017.All patients were treated with oral mesalazine(3 x 1g per day)plus a daily mesalazine suppository(0.5g per day at bedtime)for 5 weeks.The efficacy of treatment was assessed according to the Objective Management Analytic(SOMA)scale for alleviation of clinical symptoms of rectal toxicity and sigmoidoscopic findings.Clinical and endoscopic follow-up was carried out.Results:1.The patients can be cured accounted for 25%,effective 65% and overall efficiency as high as 90%.2.At the treatment endpoint symptoms score of bleeding,stool frequency and physician's evaluation were obviously improved(P <0.05).However,the score for pain,tenesmus and fever were not statistically significant(P>0.05).3.The score of KPS and PLT improved significantly(P <0.05)with mesalazine Treatment.4.The grading in endoscopy was obviously improved(P <0.05).5.No side-effects were noted in any of the patients.Conclusions:The combination therapy with oral and topical mesalazine can improve clinical symptoms and quality of life of a patient with radiation proctitis,adverse reaction were noted.
