New Insights Into The Diagnosis And Treatment Of Gout

Gouty arthritis has become one of the most common inflammatory joint diseases as a rising incidence of gout,which has brought huge disease and economic burden to the patients as well as health care organizations.Many efforts have been made to the researches on the diagnosis and treatment of gout worldwide.Recent evidence suggests that the average level of blood uric acid of people all over the world is increasing,and the main reason is that overweight and obesity are becoming more popular in the developing countries.In addition,the change of diet with more foods or drinks rich in purines,along with more widely use of diuretic treatment can also lead to the increased blood uric acid.Treating hyperuricemia is the key to the management of gout and its related diseases.Although the traditional diagnosis and treatment of gout still has some limitations at present,it is improving with emerging novel diagnostic criteria,testing methods and therapeutic drugs.The current clinical diagnostic criteria,the advantages and disadvantages of imaging examination and the effect of new drugs on gout were reviewed in the present study.
