Background: With the development of endoscopy, the diagnosis of Mallory-Weiss syndrome(MWS)become more and more.Endoscopic interventions got much attention. However there was still no consensus on the choice among these endoscopic modalities at present. The paper intended to evaluate endoscopic band ligation(EBL)for the treatment of MWS.Methods: From February 2009 to September 2015 in the first affiliated hospital of Chongqing medical university, there were 17 patients applied band ligations diagnosed of MWS with active bleeding via endoscope.Conclude the operation time, hemostatic rate,re-bleeding rate, blood transfusion, complications, hospitalization days, costs, etc. Results: The operation time is 5 to 10 minutes. The inital hemostatic rate is 100%.The final hemostatic rate is 94%.One patient appeared re-bleeding.9 patients needed blood transfusion, including 8 patients got blood transfusion before operation and one got 6U blood before operation and 4U blood at postoperation. The shortest hospitalization day was 2-hours and the longest one was 9 days(except 5 patients with concomitant diseases that leading to the days prolonged). The average hospitalization was 4.46-days.The cost was ?3700 yuan to ?22165.67 yuan and the cost of endoscopic tratment was ?3500 yuan to ?7011 yuan.During the follow-up period,No complications were found. Conclusions: EBL is a rapid, simple, safe, effective, and economic treatment for MWS with active bleeding. The method is worth to be promoted.
