Objective: This study was conducted to compare clinical outcomes of the anatomical repair and non-anatomical reconstruction for chronic ankle instability. Methods: 39 patients were followed for more than 1.5 years after procedures.25 patients were under suture anchor with modified Brost?m procedures and 14 patients were under modified Snook procedures. The operation time, wound healing time and complications of the two groups were recorded. The clinical evaluation consisted of the AOFAS scores,VAS pain scores and Karlsson scale. Results: The AOFAS scores had improved significantly to(88.35±9.74)points in the repair group, and to(85.10±8.81)points in the construction group. The VAS pain scores had improved significantly to(2.36±2.08)points in the repair group, and to(2.66±1.94)points in the construction group. The Karlsson scale had improved significantly to(85.17±14.00)points in the repair group, and to(83.07±16.44)points in the construction group. Conclusion: No significant differences existed in clinical and functional outcomes between the two techniques for ligament restoring. Both the modified Brostr?m procedure using the suture anchor and half peroneus brevis tendon transposition seem to be effective treatment methods for chronic lateral ankle instability.
