Objective: To explore volatile components from the stems and leaves of wild Uncaria rhynchophylla Miq.of Guizhou and their change during storage. Methods: To enrich volatile components by solid phase microextraction of the stems and leaves first, then to analyze them by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results: 21 and 26 volatile components, including 11 volatile common components were respectively detected from the stems and leaves. The category of those volatile components includes ethers, terpenoids, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, hydrocarbons, esters and acids. The component in the stems with the content over 3% is 2-hydroxy,benzoic acid, methyl ester, isopropyl palmitate and hexadecanal, respectively.Among them,2-hydroxy,benzoic acid, methyl ester(53.21%)is the most important component, but isopropyl palmitate(16.37%)and hexadecanal(9.96%)are relatively minor components. In the leaves, component with the content over 3% is hexadecanal(26.39%),7,10,13-hexadecatrienal(10.80%),neophytadiene(8.37%),tetradecanal(6.45%),6,9-heptadecadiene(5.47%),hexadecanoic acid(4.86%),ethyl linoleate(4.82%),9,12,15-octadecatrienol(3.50%),isopropyl palmitate(3.36%)and 3-hexen-1-ol(3.02%),respectively.The effect of storage under different way shows that packing layer has relatively small influence to volatile components. The temperature is the key factor that preserves the volatile components in both stem and leaves.6-month storage at room temperature shows a complete disappearance. While at 4 oC temperature, the volatile components is relatively stable. Thus, some components disappeared or became minor components, and some minor components became the relative main components.Furthermore, some new components were produced in stems and leaves during storage. Conclusion: The volatile components of the original stems and leaves are different. The storage condition has significant effect on volatile components.Low temperature is beneficial to preservation of volatile components. There are new components were produced in storage.
