Objective:The objective of this thesis is:(1)to understand the awareness of diabetes prevention and treatment knowledge among rural T2 DM patients;(2)to understand the access to the knowledge;(3)to evaluate the attainment rates of the BMI values, glycated hemoglobin, blood pressure, total cholesterol, triglycerides,HDL and LDL among rural T2 DM patients before and after intervention. To provide basis for making diabetes prevention and treatment strategy in rural areas in future. Methods:This thesis applies questionnaires to investigate the diabetes knowledge among rural residents in Qingdao.Health education intervention of 3 years was carried out and was followed up with visits to the residents after 3 years..Results:The awareness rate of diabetes knowledge was 16.64% before intervention and84.37% after intervention;the awareness rate after intervention was remarkably higher than that before intervention(P<0.05).The residents' diabetes knowledge such as the connection between obesity and health was improved, and this difference has statistical significance(P<0.05).The number and proportion of respondents acquiring diabetes-related knowledge by various ways both increased after intervention.TV programs, relatives, friends and health-care workers were the main sources of diabetes-related knowledge. The awareness rate of diabetes risk factors was higher after intervention(P<0.05),but the rates were both low before and after intervention.Excessive alcohol consumption was the risk factor with lowest awareness both before and after intervention, respectively accounting for 2.08% and 4.61%.The differences between BMI values, glycated hemoglobin, blood pressure, total cholesterol, triglyceride,HDL and LDL have no statistical significance(P>0.05).Conclusions:Through healthy lifestyle intervention in rural areas, the awareness level of diabetes knowledge in rural communities can be effectively improved. The publicity and education by way of TV programs, patient sharing groups and community doctors should be strengthened. The public awareness of diabetes risk factors and the effectiveness of changes in lifestyle should be enhanced. We should tailor our interventions and encourage diabetics to apply their knowledge of diabetes to changes in their lifestyle.
