| Objectives: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of a "double-layer" modality of super pulse CO2 fractional laser and pinprick treatment combined with fractional CO2 laser for the treatment of atrophic acne scars.Methods : We applied split-face and self-contrast method. The total of 20 healthy Chinese patients with atrophic acne scars randomly received super pulse fractional CO2 laser or pinprick treatment combined with fractional CO2 laser on the left or right side of the cheek for 3 times with an interval of 3 months. VAS scores on behalf of pain degrees were conducted after each treatment by patients. ECCA (Echelle d'evaluation Clinique des Cicatrices d'Acne) scores were conducted before first treatment and 3 months after each treatment to evaluate the clinical efficacy. Respectively, before 2nd and 3rd time and 3 months after the last time,make IVA (Investigator's Visual Assessment) and patient satisfaction investigation. Adverse reactions on both sides of face were conducted after each therapy.Results : Atrophic acne scars on both sides were improved obviously. ECCA scores showed a significant decrease (P<0.001) , IVA scores showed a significant increase(P<0.001) in both sides. Compared with super pulse fractional CO2 laser group,decrease of ECCA scores before and after 3 times treatment, IVA scores and patient's satisfaction were significant higher in combined treatment side, additionally, combined treatment showed significant improvement in V-shaped and U-shaped acne scars. There were significant differences between two sides. 20 patients had no severe adverse reactions such as blister, infection or hypertrophic scar.Conclusions : Super pulse CO2 fractional laser and pinprick treatment combined with fractional CO2 laser are both safe and effective for atrophic acne scars. Furthermore, the efficiency of combined treatment is more significant particularly in V-shaped and U-shaped acne scars and patient's satisfaction is relatively higher. |
