A Research On Translation And Revison Of The Long-term Condition Empowerment Scale And Reliability And Validity Analysis In Community Middle-aged And Elderly Patients

Objective1.To introduce and translate the Long-term Condition Empowerment Scale,as well as analysis the reliability and validity of the scale.2.To assess the level of empowerment in middle-aged and elderly patients from communities,and explore the correlation between empowerment,self-efficacy and sense of coherence.MethodAfter authorized by original author,we use Brislin translation model through the scale translation process.Two hundred and seventy three middle-aged and elderly patients,who come from four communities in Guangzhou with chronic diseases were included.Questionnaires were collected based on the convenience sampling method.Use SPSS 19.0 to complete data logging,analyse of reliability,validy and correlation,so as to evaluate empowerment,self-efficacy and sense of coherence level of chronic diseases patients.RESULTSCronbach's acoefficient of the total Chinese version of Long-term Condition Empowerment Scale is 0.95,Cronbach's acoefficient in the dimensions of the scale range from 0.694 to 0.877;split half reliability is 0.93,the test-retest reliability is 0.921,the average content validity of the scale is 0.950,the correlation coefficient of each dimension and the total score range from 0.875 to 0.950,with self-efficacy as criterion,the criterion validity is 0.678;The principal factor decomposition method extracte 6 common factors,remove the three entries which can not classified in any factors,the cumulative variance contribution rate is 54.50%.Chronic diseases patients self-efficacy total score is 22.04±6.17,at the up meduim level accroding to standard.The empowerment score of patients is 122.83±27.0,the "knowledge acquisition and understanding" and "identity" dimension have the highest score among all five dimensions.there is a significant difference in score of empowerment and each dimentions beetween different education level,occupation,longest course and marriage patients(p<0.05);Self-efficacy have significant positive correlation with empowerment total score and all dimensions,correlation coefficent range from 0.514 to 0.690.Conclusion1.Chinese version of Long-term Condition Empowerment Scale has a total of 44 items and six dimensions,including life attitude,identity,kno-wledge and understanding,perosonal-control,personal decision-making and enabling other patients.2.Chinese version of Long-term Condition Empowerment Scale has good internal consistency and test-retest reliability;The validity analysis shows that the scale has favorable content validity,internal correlation,criterion related validity and construct validity as well.3.The preparation process and evaluation dimensions of Chinese version of Long-term Condition Empowerment Scale emphasizes the assessment of conscious activity in patients with chronic disease during their disease management,and the scale is more suitble for the empower-ment evaluation of Chinese chronic patients.4.The empowerment of Chinese middle-aged and elderly chronic patients is in the middle level,patient's ablility to express feelings and share experience of disease management is remain to be improved.There is a low awareness of medical insurance policy aimed at long-term condition population in communities chronic patients.It's suggested that health care workers should provide advice targeted during the nusing process of communities chronic patients,in order to improve their empowerment level.
