Objectives: To get knowledge of the intensive care unit sepsis patients' etiology characteristics and the related factors affecting microbial cultures results. Methods:In this retrospective study,we analyzed the intensive care unit sepsis patients in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from June 2012 to December 2016.We collected the medical records, laboratory test results, severe scores of the intensive care unit sepsis patients and prognosis,to know the etiology characteristics and the related factors affecting microbial cultures. Results :(1)Among the 112 positive mico-organism culture results,13cases(11.6%)were G+ bacteria,48 cases(42.8%)were G-bacteria,39 cases(34.8%)were fungi, and 12 cases(10.7%)were mixed infection. There were 28 cases of positive blood culture, and the positive rate was 14.9%.(2)There was no significant difference in age, white blood cell count and neutrophil ratio in the two groups. The data analysis indicated that positive results of microbial culture were positively correlated with PCT concentration,APACHE ?score,SOFA score and prognosis. The PCT concentration,APACHE ? score,SOFA score and mortality were higher in the microbial culture positive group than in the negative group.(3)PCT concentration had statistically significant effect on microbial culture results. With PCT ? 10ng/ml as the reference level, the possibility of negative microbial culture at PCT<0.5ng/ml was 4.844 times than PCT ? 10.0ng/ml.(4)PCT concentration,APACHE ? score,SOFA score to predict the microbial culture results under the ROC curve area were 0.628,0.632,0.618.Conclusions:(1)In this study, the most common pathogens for microbial culture of ICU sepsis patients are G-bacteria,follow by fungi, then G + bacteria and mixed infections.(2)Microbial culture is positively correlated with PCT concentration and severity of disease. In sepsis patients, the higher the concentration of PCT and the more severe the disease, the higher the positive rate of microbial culture.
