ObjectiveTo explore the short-term effects of percutaneous kyphoplasty(PKP)combined with the postoperative salmon calcitonin in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures(OVCF).MethodsTaking retrospective case analysis methods to analyze 68 cases from January 2014 to February 2016 patients suffered from osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures in this hospital clinical data.According to whether use of salmon calcitonin after PKP,the patients were divided into two groups(treatment group and control group),with 31 cases and 37 cases, respectively.Control group were treated with calcium medicament and alfacalcidol after the operation, treatment group added salmon calcitonin based on control group.Visual analogue scale(VAS),ODI scores, vertebral height average recovery rate were detected and compared in different times(preoperation, the first day of postoperation and one year after the surgery). And the bone mineral density(BMD)of the proximal femur were detected before the operation and 12 months after the operation.Statistical analysis was carried out on the data of two groups to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy.ResultsAll operations were performed successfully. All the patients obtained complete following up.There were no statistical differences in the basic data mentioned above between the two groups before treatments(p>0.05).At the first day of postoperation, the levels of VAS and ODI decreased while vertebral height average recovery rate increased in both groups, and there was no statistical difference between the two groups(p>0.05).One year after treatments, the levels of VAS and ODI in treatment group is less than the data in control group(P<0.05);vertebral height average recovery rate was no statistical difference between the two groups(p>0.05).After one-year treatment, the BMD in treatment group increased compared with the data in preoperation, while the BMD in control group was no statistical difference compared with the data in preoperation..And the BMD in treatment group was more than the data in control group(P<0.05)after one-year treatment. No one have significant adverse reactions in both of the two groups during the treatment. The control group have 4 patients sufferd from vertebral refracture within one year after operations.ConclusionsTreatment with PKP for the osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures could relieve patients' pain availably, enable patients to ambulate early and correct the vertebral protrusion deformity in the short-term.The followed therapy of calcium medicament, alfacalcidol and salmon calcitonin after the PKP could consolidate the efficacy by increasing the bone mineral density and reducing the possibilities of vertebral refracture.
