Backgrounds&Aims:Gastric cancer is the only human disease which is directly related to bacterial infection.Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori),as a cancer-causing pathogens,whose prevalence rate in the population is as high as 50%.But the H.pylori infected patients,especially those asymptomatic,whether or not to take the H.pylori eradication therapy is still doubtful.This study aims to compare the patients who take the H.pylori eradication therapy to those don't in a cost-effectiveness way,then give some advices to H.pylori infected patents,especially asymptomatic infected ones.Methods:Using Markov models cohort study to conduct a cost-effectiveness analysis of eradicating H.pylori to prevent gastric cancer.Two groups were compared,the treatment group taking the H.pylori eradication therapy,the control group not taking the therapy.Data used for the model were collected from published studies and authoritative website.Then using the data to evaluate the cost-effectiveness results of H.pylori infected population in Zhejiang Province.Results:Forty years later,the treatment group had a lower gastric cancer rate and death rate than control group.The treatment group gained about 280 thousand life years(LY),about 260 thousand quality adjusted life year(QALY),and the calculated cost for gastric cancer and Hp eradication therapy is 285.77 million Yuan;the control group gained about 260 thousand LY,about 210 thousand QALY,and the calculated cost for gastric cancer treatment is 358.53 million Yuan.Cost-effectiveness were 3318.18 Yuan per LY saved,1428.57 Yuan per QALY saved.As for Zhejiang Province,H.pylori eradication therapy for H.pylori infected population saved 1.26 million calculated LY,2.92 million calculated QALY.The Cost-effectiveness were 4.15 billion Yuan.Conclusions:H.pylori eradication therapy can effectively reduce the gastric cancer rate and death rate,also decrease the cancer related cost from a view of population.Thus,there are reasons to believe that the spread of H.pylori eradication therapy can prevent gastric cancer in a cost-effectiveness way.
