Objective:To explore risk factors associated with poor medication adherence in Chinese schizophrenia patients. Methods:We performed a comprehensive meta-analysis of 12 factors which may be associated with poor medication adherence for Chinese schizophrenia patients. We conducted paper retrieval in seven databases including Wanfang Data?CNKI,CBM,Pubmed,Web of science?Cochrane,Scopus. The key words for papers were"Schizophrenia*","Schizophrenic Disorder*","Medication Adherence","Medication Persistence","Medication Compliance","Risk Factor*","Population*at Risk","China","Mainland China","Hong kong","Macao","Taiwan".All papers were reviewed by two independent researchers.Data were collected independently, and confirmed by third researcher in case of any discordance. The fixed-effects model and random-effects model were used for data analysis based on results of heterogeneity test across studies.Odds ratio(OR)and standardized mean difference(SMD)were used to measure the effect size of difference between two groups(good vs poor compliance)for continuous variables and dichotomous variables. All analyses were performed using Review Manger 5.3 software to idenntify sensitivity analysis and sensitivity analysis using. Results:Eight published papers were included in our study. We evaluated 12 variables including:age(year),gender, marital status, course of diseases(years),social support, drug side effects, work conditions, education degree(?9 years),payment capacity, drugs categories and doctor-patient relationship(in general)and patient's insight. Our meta-analysis indicated that 3 variables were associated with poor medication adherence, including social support(OR=3.19,95%CI:1.18?8.64,PQ<0.000001,P=0.02),drug side effects(OR=0.35,95%CI:0.18?0.68,PQ=0.0001,P=0.002),economic conditions(OR=1.92,95%CI:1.09?3.40,PQ=0.0006),patient's insight(OR=5.51,95%CI:1.42?21.42,PQ=0.05,P=0.01).Conclusion:Risk factors significantly associated with poor medication adherence in Chinese schizophrenia were social support, existing drug side effects and payment capacity and patient's insight.
