Background and objective:Thrombotic embolism has received high attention as one of the most important parenteral manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease, associated with hypercoagulability of peripheral blood in inflammatory bowel disease. The aim of this study is to analyze the changes in coagulation-related markers in IBD patients and to explore the relationship between these markers and disease activity,so as to provide a sufficient basis for assessing and predicting disease activity and guiding prophylactic anticoagulant therapy. Methods:A total of 317 hospitalized patients diagnosed as CD and UC and 100 healthy subjects were included in the research from January 2016 to December 2016 at Run Run Shaw Hospital.Plasma levels of prothrombin time(PT),prothrombin activity(PTA),activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT),thrombin time(TT),fibrinogen(FBG),D-Dimer(D-Di),platelet count(PLT),mean platelet volume(MPV)were detected and compared. And the relationship between the coagulation markers and disease activity index were also analyzed. Results:The levels of PT,APTT,FBG,D-Di and PLT in the IBD group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.01)while TT and MPV were significantly decreased(P<0.01)and PTA was not significantly different(P>0.05).D-Di and MPV were higher in UC group while PLT was lower compared with CD group(P<0.05).There were some differences in the coagulation markers between the patients with different severity, especially in moderate to severe patients.PT,PTA,APTT,PLT,MPV were correlated with disease activity to some degree, although the correlation was so weak relatively. There was a significant linear positive correlation between FBG and inflammatory indices like ESR and CRP.So FBG can be used as a good indicator to assess and predict the progress and activity of inflammatory bowel disease. Conclusion:The coagulation function may be abnormal in IBD patients manifested as prolonged PT,APTT,elevated FBG,D-Di,PLT,and decreased TT,MPV.FBG could be used as a good indicator to assess and predict the progress and activity of inflammatory bowel disease.
