Objective To investigate the relationship between brain damage in preterm infants(BIPI)and serum neuron specific enolase(NSE)levels within 24 hours after birth based on cranial MRI results, and NSE’s predictive value for BIPI.And to determine wether the factors such as Apgar score, birth weight, gestational age, gender, delivery modes, singletons and multiples, affect the level of serum NSE in premature with brain injury. Methods Select premature infants who were born and treated in our hospital from January 1,2016 to May 31 st enrolled in the study. The concentration of serum NSE was detected within 24 hours after birth,At the same time, consummate routine tests and physical examinations. The basic information and the case data of all the subjects were collected on the spot by the trained medical staff.Combined with clinical symptoms and cranial MRI results,82 cases were divided into brain injury group,96 cases were divided non brain injury group.Serum NSE levels were compared between the two groups. And to analyze which high risk factors of BIPI influence the serum NSE level of the premature infants with brain damage. Results Comparing serum NSE levels between two groups, the serum NSE level in brain injury group was statistically significantly higher than that non brain injury group.(P﹤0.05).Serum NSE levels in the delivery modes, singletons and multiples were not statistically significant(P﹥0.05)in brain injury group.Serum NSE levels in the group gestational age, birth weight were statistically significant(P﹤0.05)in brain injury group. The serum NSE level was negatively associated with gestational age and birth weight(γ=-0.29,P﹤0.01;γ=-0.47,P﹤0.00).There was no correlation between mothers’ age and serum NSE levels(γ=0.07,P=0.98).Rupture of membranes,HDP and NRDS were the factors influence serum NSE levels of premature infants with was linear regression relationship with gestational age, birth weight, premature rupture of membranes,HDP and NRDS,and the effect of birth weight on serum NSE level was the most significant. Conclusion The level of serum NSE within 24 hours after birth has increased significantly in BIPI,which could be a biomarker of BIPI.Gestational age, birth weight, premature rupture of membranes,HDP,NRDS and other factors have affected the level of NSE.Gestational age, birth weight, premature rupture of membranes,HDP,NRDS,there was a linear regression relationship between serum NSE levels in premature infants with brain injury.
