ObjectiveTic disorder is a common neuropsychiatric disorder in children. In recent years, its morbidity and prevalence continue to rise, gradually get more and more attention of family and society, but modern medicine has not found a safe and effective treatment yet.Nowadays, lots of articles have reported that using the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)to treat children with tic disorder obtained a satisfactory effect, and side effects were significantly reduced compared with Western medicine. The aim of the study was to collect clinical TD cases, then analyzed their different socres of the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale(YGTSS)and the TCM symptoms sale before and after treatment with TCM syndrome differentiation. The therapeutic effect was evaluated by calulating the reduction rate and the efficiency.Methods40 children with tic disorder were included in the study. The severity of tic symptoms and concomitant symptoms were measured before and after the treatment for 4 weeks and 8 weeks using the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale(YGTSS)and the TCM Symptom Score Scale, respectively. Then we recorded their total scores, and calculated the reduction rate before and after treatment to obtain the overall efficiency to determine whether the traditional Chinese medicine treatment can effectively improve the children’s tic symptoms and other accompanying symptoms.ResultsIn the 40 cases of clinical trials, before and after the treatment of 4 weeks, before and after the treatment for 8 weeks, after the treatment for 4 weeks and 8 weeks after treatment, the score differences between the the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale(YGTSS)and the TCM Symptom Score Scale, were statistically significant(P<0.01).In the comparison of the efficiency, the improvement of tic symptoms and impact on daily life were evaluated by the reduction rate of the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale. The result showed that total effective rate after 4 weeks and 8 weeks of treatment was 55%and 77.5%.Their difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).In the mean time,we assessed the improvement of concomitant symptoms through the TCM Symptom Score Scale’ s reduction rate. The result showed the total effective rate was 60%after the treatment for 4 weeks, and 85%for 8 weeks.By statistical analysis, their difference was statistically significant(P<0.01)as well.Besides,in the whole process of treatment, there was no case of adverse drug reactions.ConclusionChinese medicine symdrome differentiation treatment for children with tic disorder, whether it is to improve the tic symptoms,or to improve other concomitant symptoms, the effect is certain.8 weeks’ s clinical efficacy is better than 4 weeks. It is safe and effective, and has less side effects.
