Background:Root canal therapy(RCT)is the most effective treatment for dental pulp and periapical diseases to save teeth longer. In the root canal treatment,we are often faced with calcification of root canal. The treatment of calcified root canal is very difficult, spending longer and more time, costing more materials and equipment. The incidence of dental pulp calcification is very high, calcified root canalacan appear in any teeth.Root canal omission is one of the common causes of failure, while root canal and root canal orifice calcified is one of the most important causes of root canal missing.Studies have shown that the failure rate of calcified root canal treatment can be up to 25-80%.In recent years, with the research and development of oral new material and equipment and the application of oral new technology, the success rate of calcified root canal treatment has increased greatly, preservating tooth that hardly to keep before. Objective:Through the study of clinical cases of calcified root canal treatment, analysis the reasons for the formation of calcified root canal, the commonly used method to discuss the treatment and operation key points, observe the effect of the treatment, and accumulate clinical experience,in order to better for clinical diagnosis and treatment of calcified root canal. Methods:Choose the patients with calcified root canal therapy in Stomatological Hospital of Shandong University between January 2015 and February 2017(248 patients,286 teeth).Record patients' clinical time, name, gender, age, teeth, diagnosis, and treatment.Statistics the number of anterior, premolar and molar teeth, with or without treatment history, calcification and treatment outcomes of the calcified root canal cases. Results:Root canal calcification in the statistics of 248 patients affected women more often than men.Root canal calcification can appear in all ages, and the peak age in the clinical treatment of calcified root canal is youth and middle-aged.Root canal calcification in the statistics of 286 teeth, grouped according to the tooth position and forming reason, there is no significant gender differences.Caries disease, retreatment, trauma, cracked, periodontal disease, chronic wear and other reasons can lead to the formation of calcified root canal. The rate of root canal calcification caused by caries disease and retreatment is far higher than other reasons.Root canal calcification caused by trauma is common in anterior teeth, especially upper anterior teeth;cracked or splitting seen most frequently in molar.Root canal calcification caused by chronic wear on each tooth position can occur, including chronic wear due to improper occlusal teeth severe abrasion and severe wedge caused by improper way of brushing your teeth defect, etc. In terms of tooth position, molar occurred root canal calcification is higher than the ratio of anterior tooth and premolar.286 teeth in 248 patients with root canal calcification, most of treatment failure is molar, and the failure of dental retreatment is more likely. In this study, treatment failure rate is 10.14%.Conclusion:Calcified root canal therapy is the clinical common complex root canal treatment. There are many reasons for its formation, and the treatment process is complicated and difficult.Calcified root canal treatment needs to develop a comprehensive treatment plan, equipment combined use of a variety of materials, pay attention to the anatomical variations in root canal,in combination with X-ray prompt, operate carefully, standardized operation, dredge calcifications gradually.
