A Study On The Relationship Between Chinese Character Handwriting And Mental Health

Purpose:To examine the factor structure of Chinese character handwriting characteristics in patients with mental disorders;To explore the differences in handwriting characteristics between mental disorders and normal people,and further explore the differences in handwriting characteristics about schizophrenia,neurosis,mania,depression;To understand the effect of education level on handwriting characteristics of patients with mental disorders;To study the relationship between handwriting characteristics and SCL-90 factors,and to explore the intrinsic relationship between handwriting characteristics and mental health status;To inspect the degree of distinction between mental disorders and the normal population,and different mental disorders by handwriting characteristics.Methodology:Use the poem "Chunxiao" as a standardized text copy material;Use the electronic writing screen(ESP1020)to collect handwriting of patients with mental disorders in the three hospital inpatients;CCQAS5.0 is used to quantify the handwriting characteristics,that is,CCQAS5.0 automatically extract the average pressure of writing and other 35 objective handwriting characteristics of the data;The experimenter quantified the overall aesthetic degree of the handwriting material and other three subjective handwriting features,obtain 40 subjective and objective handwriting features.At the same time of collecting mental disorders handwriting characteristics,supplemented by self-compiled "basic questionnaire of patients" and using SCL-90 to investigate their mental health status.Use the same method to collect the handwriting of the normal population across the country and supplemented by SCL-90 to assess their mental health status.Use Excel to manage the handwriting feature data acquired by CCQAS5.0 and use the number consistency to stitch and merge the test data and personal information data.Finally,use SPSS21.0 to do factor analysis,variance analysis,multiple comparisons,independent sample t test,correlation analysis and discriminant analysis.Results:(1)Do multi-round exploratory factor analysis of 40 subjective and objective handwriting features of mental disorders patients,and finally extract the "space occupancy","stroke characteristics","the first word size","pen pressure","overall feature ","word area and spacing" and "margin and slope" 7 factors,the cumulative variance interpretation rate of 75.72%;(2)The difference in schizophrenia,neurosis,mood disorders and normal population in 22 handwriting characteristics,such as horizontal pen pressure is significant(P<0.05,P<0.01,P<0.001);(3)The difference in schizophrenia,neurosis,mania and depression on the 23 handwriting characteristics such as the average pen pressure is significant(P<0.05,P<0.01,P<0.001);(4)The difference that different education level of patients with schizophrenia,neurosis and mood disorders,respectively,the largest word spacing,the total time of writing,title gradient and many handwriting characteristic is significant(P<0.05,P<0.01);(5)The score of SCL-90 in schizophrenia,neurosis,mania and depression group is significantly higher than that of national norm(P<0.05);(6)The subjects in the normal group are significantly associated with anxiety,coercion,depression and other factors of SCL-90 in pen pressure,layout,word area,writing gradient and other handwriting characteristics(P<0.05),the handwriting characteristics of mania,depression,neurosis and schizophrenia are significantly correlated with the number of items and the number of SCL-90 factors and total scores(P<0.05);(7)The difference between SCL-90 total score high and low groups of normal subjects in the occupancy rate and so on six handwriting characteristic are significant(P<0.05,P<0.01),The difference that SCL-90 total score high and low groups of mental disorders in the right margin of the text of the five handwriting characteristics are significant(P<0.05);(8)The correct discrimination rate for schizophrenia-normal,schizophrenia-neurosis,schizophrenia-depression,neurosis-mania,neurosis-depression are 80.8%,78.3%,82.3%,74.1 %,73.9%.Conclusion:(1)The 40 subjective and objective handwriting features of mental disorders can be extracted as "space occupancy","stroke characteristics ","the first word size","pen pressure","overall feature"," word area and spacing ","margin and slope " 7 common factors,the cumulative variance interpretation rate: 75.72%.It also shows that the handwriting of the mental disorders has both the same factor structure as that of the normal person and also has its own unique place.(2)The difference that mental disorders and normal group in 22 handwriting characteristics,such as cross pen pressure are significant and these suggest that handwriting characteristics of mental disorder group and normal group are different.(3)The difference that schizophrenia,neurosis,mania and depression group in writing 23 handwriting characteristics such as average pressure are significant,these show that the handwriting characteristic of mental disorders are different.(4)The degree of education has a significant impact on the characteristics of the handwriting of schizophrenia,neurosis,and mood disorders in patients with different items and numbers.(5)There are intrinsic relationship between pen pressure,layout,word area,writing slope of normal subjects and mental health(SCL-90 factors),there are internal relations between Mania,depression,schizophrenia and neurosis group of handwriting characteristics and mental health(SCL-90 factors).(6)The difference between SCL-90 total score high and low groups of subjects in the average pen pressure,occupancy rate and so on handwriting characteristic are significant.(7)The effect of using handwriting characteristics to distinguish schizophrenia-normal,schizophrenia-neurosis,schizophrenia-depression,neurosis-mania,neurosis-depression is ideal.
