ObjectiveObserve the clinical effects of treating Cervical Spondylotic Radiculopathy by using the Giant Acupuncture with Eletro-acupuncture and explore the applying value of the method in clinic in Cervical Spondylotic Radiculopathy treatment.MethodsChoose 60 patients consistent with the inclusion criteria of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy, enrolled from the in-patient and out-patient acupuncture department of the 1st Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of TCM as well as from the acupuncture clinic of the 3rd Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University and divide them into two groups(therapy group and control group)randomly,30 cases in each group;then the therapy group received the giant acupuncture with eletro-acupuncture(specific acu-points selected are:Cervical Jiaji Points,Fengchi,Wangu,Tianzhu and Dazhu as main Points in both sides adding Dazhui in Governor Vessel;Jianjing,Jianyu,Quchi,Shousanli,Waiguan,Hegu,Houxi and Ashi Points as cooperating Points only in the healthy side while the control group got the routine acupuncture treatment which concluded the same main points as the therapy group and the same cooperating points but in the sick side. After all the acu-points had the feelings of Deqi, the electro-acupuncture machine was connected to the needles inserted into the points, with the dilute-dense wave pattern, adjusted the frequency of the wave to 4/20Hz,keeping the state for 30 minutes and then taking out the needles. The treatments were implemented once every other day,3 times each week,2 weeks as a treating course, and the all treating Period was 2 courses and the efficacies were assessed after 1 course and 2 courses respectively according to the visual analog scales, the Tanaka Yasuku symptom quantization table 20 division method, the neck disability index.Record the scores and evaluate the clinical effect of the two treating methods.Results1.The Patients in both groups had no statistically significant difference(P>0.05)in aspects of age, gender composition and the each scale score before treatment, showing the baselines are consistent and both groups are of comparability.2.The scores in above mentioned 3 scales were promoted to different extents after treating for 1 course and 2 courses and had a statistical difference(P<0.05)comparing the scores before treatment, showing that both treating methods can effectively relieve the clinical symptoms of Cervical Spondylotic Radiculopathy.3.The scores in the visual analog scales, the Tanaka Yasuku symptom quantization table 20 division method and the neck disability index had no statistical difference((P>0.05)before treatment;both scores of the latter two scales after treating for 1 course and 2 courses and the score difference of two scales between before the treatment and after 2 courses had no statistical difference(P>0.05),showing that the effect in therapy group was equivalent to that in control group in improving the patients' general symptoms, physical signs and the quality of daily life;the scores of VAShad a statistical difference after treating for 1 course and 2 courses(P<0.05)and the score difference of this scale between before the treatment and after 2 courses had a statistical difference(P<0.05),showing a better effect in therapy group than in control group in relieving the patients' subjective pain.ConclusionThe Giant Acupuncture with Eletro-acupuncture has a good effect in treating Cervical Spondylotic Radiculopathy, which can effectively relieve the clinical symptoms. In the study this therapy proved a better effect in relieving patients' subjective pain than the routine acupuncture with eletro-acupuncture with a high safety, worthy of further application in clinic.
